• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Occurence

Hi,

Said I made an object, add it in a library (Instant Scenery) and placed a lot of occurences of this object in a scenery. If I make correction to the object in FSDS and replace it in the library all the objets in precedent version diseappered from FSX. I have to replace all the occurences.

Is it possible to keep the same GUID for the object so all the original occurences are automatically replaced in FSX?

Thanks

How are you "replacing it in the library"? If you keep the same GUID when you do that, they won't disappear.

Given that this is for fsx you need to make sure the new mdl has the same guid. Not sure how the guid is set by FSDS, but hopefully there is some property for it.

Do not use the Library Maker tool supplied with Instant Scenery.

As we have seen before, it ignores the GUID in the mdl header and creates a new one each time.

Use Arno's Library Creator XML tool instead to update your library.

Another option is to use LibraryMaker ver 1.0a (comes with IS2 I think). If you right click on the old object from the list, it brings up an option to edit the GUID. You can then copy (Ctrl C) the GUID. Then replace the old object with the new version. Then edit this new object GUID and paste (Ctrl V) the old GUID to the new object version and save. I do this all the time. I even move objects around into different library files this way for better organization.

This will replace all the old objects with the new version in all scenery files without having to replace them.

Another thing you should look for: When you make corrections to objects and lose the old versions, the IS file is still looking for those old GUID's. If you load an IS scenery file into IS, hit the "?" button. This will show all your objects in that scenery and any missing object GUID's will show up as "undefined".

Hope this helps,

Use Instant Scenery 2 and follow this step by step. I think Ren was saying this.
If you have Instant Scenery but NOT Instant Scenery2 then you cannot do the following. IS2 is well worth buying. some really neat features added.
Let's say the mdl is called towerx.mdl

Library Maker open and your library you made is open. do this.......

1. right click towerx
2. click on 'change guid'
3. hover over the guid- right click and save
4. hilite towerx and choose the minus sign and delete.
5. go to where you store your mdls choose the new towerx and click 'open'
6. right click the new towerx you now have and click 'change guid'
7. hover of the guid - right click and paste.
8. save.
This sounds like alot but it really is very simple! But use whatever program you see fit.
I don't tell people to - 'don't use this or don't use that'. Keep in mind the programs offered here and others are all very fine. Each has its own advantages and disadvangtages. You use what suits you at the time and place as you see fit.
DONE - If you don't do this you will open the scenery folder in your scenery and find all the ghost boxes (little red thingies) and delete each one. I personally asked Konstantin if those red boxes can hurt frame rates. He said- not unless there are a few million of them. But then ya don't won't those buggers hanging around anyway. :)
