• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v3 Odd shadows on building.

I will state right now that I have solved this by simply recompiling the model and placing it again. But I am curious as to what the problem was because I didn't change anything.

In the picture below you can see what look like shadows on my terminal building (only building that had the issue) is it Z-fighting or something?
Screenshot_487.jpg

when I move the user SC and get a different point of view the shadows are in the same place but can be seen flickering, the specular color is black (0, 0, 0.) and there is no bump, detail, specular or Fresnel texture.

If you can let me know what thie issue was I can hopefully avoid this in the future,

thanks

Mark

You appear to have several instances of the same model in exactly the same spot. This is somewhat common with Sketchup modelling. In that circumstance, it is indeed z-fighting, in multiple places you have duplicate polygons competing to be rendered. I don't know your compilation/placement system, in some cases using IS3 for placement, the fix is as easy as selecting the model and deleting, leaving only the duplicate in it's place. If this has happened using ADE placement, the fix could be more involved.

Agree with the above commented, if not duplicated objects could be duplicated polygons, check the model again, clean and Weld vertex

Duplicated polys could well be the issue, I will have a good look into the model to see if the issue remains (hopefully not)
Thanks
