• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

HI

I get an unhandled exception when I try to run the LOD creator. The MCX window goes white witha red cross through it and this cross oulses as if it is continually being drawn over and over again. The LOD seem to populate but I cant be sure its doing it correctly. I'm using V 1.4.0.0 c88c237 Dev 01/01/2016. The options were From LOD 400 to LOD 160, Auto Calculate, everything else as default. Then I pressed the Calculate button. The LOD seemed to work (the green bar moved across the LOD Creator window and the 160 LOD seemed to add. Below is the output

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

It is likely that your model is too complex. This is a common occurrence with the LOD Creator for me and that is the result. If your system has the resources and MCX does not freeze then it will eventually produce a model for that particular detail level. The render window will not restore however until you restart MCX. Bear in mind that the detail level is not related to the models ability to be edited by the LOD Creator, the model complexity and reduction algorithm affect that.
Consider this as an alternative to the auto calculate function: Import your model into MCX and then use the Hierarchy Editor to strip unnecessary parts; landing gear, antennas, seats, stuff like that. Then you can save that model with a unique name. Do it again and strip even more parts, cockpits, flaps, whatever, save again with another name. You can actually save various levels of your "stripping" with the same base model into the same folder, if you are careful with procedure. Eventually you will have a shell. Now run this through the LOD Creator and you have very many versions of the same model with progressive levels of detail. You can use alternatively the Merge Objects window with a setting to insert model as LOD selected; or you can use the LOD Creator to import your other versions at the selected LOD level.
I find I get much better results with the auto calculate function if I remove any components possible myself first.
