• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

problem

The AF71_ADE_PC.BGL is only 39K but the ...ade and...ade.bak are both 5.6MB before zipping.I am not at my own computer, but the figures for AF72 are 882K before zipping
It isn't nessary to post the .bak, but even the bgl and cvx would be useful.

Don't forget, you can now delete 72.zip from your attachments.

I've had a quick look at AF72 and there are a coulpe of things, none of which should case the AI to disappear (but they do on my system)

Firstly, the airport and flatten are at different heights 20.73M and 17.678M:

You have defined the parking spots as Gates so you will get a push-back tug, baggage cart etc:

As I say, these should not cause AI to disappear before take-off. Usually this is caused by no route to the runway, however, you have defined two runways with no centre-line, this may be the problem.

I shall investigate further.

Yes, that was the problem. ATC was attempting to use runway 08 and there was no centre-line.

You will need to add runway centre-lines to both runways and add hold-short nodes. Note the orientation of the H-S marking, the continuous bar must be on the side opposite the runway.

Also, in the UK, runway idents usually have a leading zero.

Note also, when you ask ADE to change the airport height it will place a dummy AFD file in the FSX Scenery\World\Scenery folder. As this is a non-default airport, this isn't needed.

Thanks George,
I am unable to access the net on my computers at the moment so I am using the local library, and their system blocks your attachments.I shall go over all the points you raise. But the fact that plans which I write from stock or my older designed airfields to these latest airfields work, is a sticking point.I have never put runway centre lines down, because I can not remember if they were used in WW2.I did not realise that the HS was critical, but I will check them.I did not know what was generating baggage carts, but the ramps may be too small to accept larger aircraft.
Incidentally, looking at 140 airfields, the ones with big files have up to 36 dispersal pans(aprons),and they are 30K each.Spectacle disperals, drawn with taxi lines are only half this size.
Thanks for your time.

I think George is referring to the runway link. As far as I know it does not show a center line and in any case you can turn it off so it is just there for the aircraft and does not affect the visual display at all

Exactly, you need the "black" runway type path on all runways and they must be connected to the taxiway network so that the AI have somewhere to take off. If you don't wish AI to use a particular runway, delete that runway and replace it with a long thin apron.

Thanks
Yes,I realised what George meant when I looked at the map.I left the runway link off intentionally, because the traffic seems to prefer northerly orientated runways in no wind situations.
George, did you get any traffic to appear at my AF72?
Over the weekend I have drawn 6 new basic(1 runway, peritrack and 2 parking spots) airfields, and amazingly, the plans which I write for these produce traffic. The first to work for three months!
I then deleted all trace of AF72 from my computer and redrew a new ,basic AF72 airfield on the same site. But the plan which I wrote for it,a quick circuit and landing, produced no traffic.I then wrote a plan from EGNX to AF72,and this traffic appeared and flew both legs. But nothing will start from AF72.

Thanks,Yes, I have plenty of parking spots of large enough size. When I say the traffic does not start,I mean that it does not sppear.
At the present time, any fictitious airfield which I draw with ADE,and for which I write a flightplan, produces traffic. But with my no show airfields(about 80 now) even deleting my ADE files and creating a new simple airfield on the same site will not allow any aircraft to show.It is almost as though the area has been polluted by my original ADE drawing!

As George noted, make sure you go to FSX\Scenery\World\Scenery and delete the AF72 file there. AF72 is not completely gone until you do this. I tried working with your AF72, and then tried to delete it, but it was still listed in FSX and I could go there, because of the altitude change file left over.

George,Did you actually get a flightplan to work with my AF72?
I have had a new idea this week.I have drawn 33 airfields in Yorkshire,41 in Lincolnshire,26 in Norfolk, and 15 in Suffolk, all adjacent English counties.
I did not do all in one county and then move to the next, but jumped around at random. When I finished an airfield,I wrote a flightplan for it,and for a while these all worked. But at some point the plans stopped working.
So,have I overloaded the system and caused the plans to stop working?I have just drawn 8 airfields in Essex, the next county, and written a flightplan for each one. They all work, the first to do so for six months.I suspect that if I keep drawing airfields in this area, the flightplans will eventually stop working.
If this is the case, which program is causing the cut off.ADE,AIFP or FSX?
In these areas, the traffic at stock airports has vanished.
Traffic written from outside these areas or from the early drawn airfields within them, still flies to and from the nonworking airfields
I can write new plans for my early airfields, and they work normally.

Collltip

I never got as far as trying AI at AF72, and have since deleted it. However, I had trouble getting my user aircraft to work. No matter what parking spot I started from, ATC always sent me to RW 32. That RW has no Start point Or runway taxi line. User craft don't need those, but it may be a clue as to other problems. Progressive taxi does not work. You may not use it, but there must be some reason it is not there. All your parking is small gates. Are these airports for 737s? I realize a C172 will park at a gate if no other spots are there, but I think it organizes things better if you set parking spots for the type of plane you want to park there.

Maybe someone here can answer this. I remember with AFCAD, having to make sure that comm and other frequencies had to be a certian amount different from those around them( technical term escapes me). Can clustering so many airports together cause ILS or other overlap problems? Does ADE take care of that?

Anyway, just thinking out loud for you. AF72 looks fun, and you have put alot of thought into your work. Do you always use drive through parking? Sometimes it can be tricky to get AI to follow it.
So, you say that AI works at your airports at first, and then stops working at some point as you add more airports. One idea might be to try this. If you add an airport and AI stops. delete that airports and see if AI comes back. If it does, rebuild that airport somewhere else and see what happens. Or maybe just stop in that area. Good luck.

Bob

Thanks,If by drive through parking you mean spectacle dispersals,I use them if the original airfield had them, and I have never had any problems with them.
I have drawn nine more airfields in Essex, all close together, written flightplans for them and they all work.
I then went to Lincolnshire and deleted 17 airfields and left one faulty airfield in splendid isolation. But flightplans for it still would not work.
I have spent 7 months trying to cure this problem and I think it is time to admit defeat. It is not a complete disaster since traffic from working airfields will fly to and from the faulty ones, and I can pad out the activity with FS Recorder traffic. Thanks for everyones'suggestions.

Problems

Thanks Jon.

Bobbyjack,
Here,I hope,is a simple airfield which will not use up my quota.I wrote a flightplan using stock 172.A quick circuit and landing. But nothing appears.

Apart from the obvious texture problems and the fact that your flatten doesn't match my mesh, there is nothing wrong with the airport.

Try the attached flightplan.
