• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Rovaniemi, EFRO

Are you sure? I know the files are texture files, I have 12 such files in my Rovaniemi_Revisited/Texture folder. But not the FinlandXII_trees1_HW.dds (a.s.o.) ! (Ihave no EFRO/Texture folder)

Yes i am 100% sure that FinlandXII_trees1_HW.dds file is inside my EFRO texture folder and all other tree textures, i just checked that. You propably should redownload the EFRO installer and you get the missing files.

Thank you for the patience. I have no EFRO installer. I downloaded the Rovaniemi_optimized.zip from www.fsnordic.net as mentioned in Post #37. There is no installer and no FinlandXII_trees1_HW.dds files inside. I tried 3 times:(

Oh, certainly I know this well. I have naturally downloaded Rovaniemi_revisited_2015.zip before and had installed. But there also no FinlandXII_trees1_HW.dds files inside!

Hi!

Good catch, thank you. The hw textures are indeed missing. I'll fix that.

Hi.
Hi Tatu,

I downloaded your scenery and I must say you did a wonderful job with very nicely made models.
Of course I would not comment if I would not have some critics (you know how people are, especially me:)).
On the other hand, it is NOT critics, it is more of a suggestion to improve some things, like the ones I experienced (but I have not checked other things yet):
- sinking through the parking lot (see pic);
- the rather weird texture of the parking lot;
- the sudden differences in terrain elevation;
- the runway and approach lights during daytime
- and the last one, but I will keep the last one for later on.
All this can be easily improved, for instance:
- the sinking: make a flatten at the right elevation and that is it;
- use the daytime textures for the lamps of the runway and approach lights and only use the night textures at night;
- add some sloped flattens and you will not have those abrupt differences in elevation anymore;
- and the last one is!!!!:
Cheers,

* Yes, the parking lot is not hard, didn't see any reason for it to be that way.
* I don't know about the texture weirdness...
*I know about the terrain elevations... there are many things going on. In real life EFRO has quite a slope, that's what the mesh is trying to do. But as you know, we have to flatten the airport for FS, and the sloping terrain is really pain in the *** to do. Maybe I can take a look at it if I happen to feel so... :-D
* I know how to switch the approach lights off during daytime, but until you tell me how to switch them on again when it's foggy I'll change the code.

This is a huge freeware project. I am not going to spent all my time with it, but rather produce something new. I recently installed FTX global and spotted some errors, so I have to fix EFRO a bit anyway. I see what I can do to fix some of these things.

Thank you again for this wonderful scenery. In Austria (Vienna) this year was no snow at all. And I love a little trip through the snow and coldness in my fantasy:wave:

Understand. I'll get the snowy trees for you. By the way... the trees exist only around the hospital helipad. If you fly on to EFRO, you'll not even notice the missing textures.

Hi!

I have been working on an update for Rovaniemi. The update will bring Rovaniemi to Version 2.

* I fixed the most visible elevation problems around the airport.
* The parking area behind the terminal is hard surface now
* Added some more Military parking slots
* I added some custom vegetation and made sure all the tree textures are now included in textures folder
* Fixed autogen a bit
* The performance should be better now, since I optimized further the most complicated objects

And here comes the biggest change....

* The approach lights are now controlled by SODE. Lights turn on and off automatically, the only thing you have to do, is make sure you install the files correctly. The Approach lights will be visible when weather (visibility) gets bad enough, otherwise no lights during daytime and runway lights only at dawn, dusk and night.

The newest version of SODE is here: http://sode.12bpilot.ch/
Make sure you install SODE files in your ProgramData/12bPilot/SODE folder, NOT in Program Files or Program Files(86) or anywhere else.

IMPORTANT! If you decide to use SODE lights, then you have to remove EFRO_rwy_lights.bgl from EFRO/Scenery folder.

If interested, you can download the v2 beta here. I have a few things to do, but this is basically how the version 2 will be.

Perfect!
Congratulations.
Now I will vote for your scenery as the best freeware scenery of 2016 (2015 voting is closed?):).

Yes, I do know, but it is rather complicated to explain.
Have a go at some threads in FSDeveloper that may show you the way ( I cannot find them back but Jtanabodee is a search word) and figure it out for yourself if you are hesitant to send me a PM.

There is no way to switch object visibility on/off using variables of weather features in FSX scenery code as it comes from Microsoft. Switching the light on and off DAY vs. DUSK/NIGHT/DAWN is no problem as I said earlier, but to get weather variables to work we need something like SODE or other modules to do it.

This is not a question of the material or how the material is set up. The needed variables are simply not available for use in FSX native code using Microsoft SDK.

You do indeed need SODE but you also need to make the lights like explained by Jtanabodee for SODE to get the desired result.

Hey guys, i installed and registered the scenery in my p3d v3.2s scenerybase but my ground surface of the whole airport is just black?!

Installed mine into P3d 3.4 today and my ground surface is black too - any ideas?

EDIT: Perhaps I shouldn't be such an idiot and should've realised to install v1 before v2 as v2 is only an update..............
