• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

Hello Arno,

My intention is to converst MSFS sceneries to X-Plane 12 using the scene builder wizard. Importing the scenery works fine, all texturews are there. But when I´m load the converted scenery (dsf) there is a texture missing. It seems that there is a path missing to the texture?

This is the only warning. Any idea what could be wrong?

Thanks,
Holger

No idea what’s wrong, but you should be able to enter the path in the Material Editor and then press the Reload Textures button in the main program if you need to see it in the display?

Thanks for your help. Unfortuneately the texture isn´t there and so I´m not able to set the path.

Something seems to went wrong during converting.

Hi,

My question would be if the texture is present in the model you converted. I also notice in the log that there doesn't seem to be an extension.

No it isn´t. There is a file with a similary file although it seems that there some more files are missing even there is no more warning. I have the same issue with some other sceneries. Import works fine but after exporting and loading the dsl file into MCX or X-Plane a few textures are missing.

So you mean in the MSFS model you load they are not missing? On export to X-Plane OBJ no new textures should be added.

Yes, in the MSFS model everything is fine. Something seem to go wrong during converting. Same procedure works with a lot of other sceneries without issues. Will do a litte bit more of testing with that scenery ...

Hello,

I have another question concerning the scene builder wizard. I have a big issue with converting transparent textures like windwos. The problem is that after converting in X-plane the tranparency affects also other walls in a room or building so that you can look through the whole building (so as would there not be wall). What I don´t understand is that when I set the glass textures to "set default Opaque" and I rebuild the object this will not be saved!? After that it is still tranparency If I reload the object in MCX or X-Plane. Any idea whta is wrong?

Thank you,
Holger

Hi,

I don't think X-Plane uses the source and destination blend material attributes. I think as long as there is an alpha channel in the texture X-Plane will render it. I would have to check the X-Plane OBJ format documentation to see if there is a way to influence this.

In general I would prefer to remain the transparancy (set to Opaque was just for testing) but if there would be a way to avoid the weird effect that the transparency affects also other structures which are not supposed to be transparancy that would be very nice! It makes some projects more or less unusable :-( Probably some ohter X-Plane users out here which already came across this issue?

Thanks Arno!
Holger

Does the texture have an alpha channel for the parts that should not be transparent? Sometimes the alpha channel is used for other things like reflection. That would explain the behaviour. But without seeing the as actual model it's hard to say.

Hard to say because the building is splitted in so many parts. I found that these transparancy parts make other objects (parts) invisible in a special range.

First screenshot shows glas box (part of an jetway). You only can see the ground of the apron but as you can see there is an aircraft standing next. In the distance you can see the objets (trees and taxi signs)

Second Screenshot is a little bit forward in that glasbox. As you can see no aircraft can be seen.

Third screenshot is when you are throughout the glasbox

aircraft and some other objects appears. This with all MSFS to X-Plane converted objects which are using transparent parts (textures).

It is really weird ...! When I´m looking from the apron side then everything seems to be normal!?

Hi,

Ah, I thought your walls become transparent, but what you mean is that other objects are not visible through your transparent parts. That's a different issue. I am not sure how X-Plane handles this when drawing different parts. Maybe the OBJ file needs some extra command to mark is as transparent for the sorting of the scene on drawing. But I don't know enough about X-Plane for that.

Do you maybe know how that works when you make a model for X-Plane directly?

"Ah, I thought your walls become transparent" Yes they did. Not only glass textures are affected. It seems that only one side of the object is affected. If I´m looking from the other side everything is fine ...

"Do you maybe know how that works when you make a model for X-Plane directly?"

Unfortuneatly not. So far I have worked with Sketchup for P3D and MSFS and my sources are without transparent textures. I will see if I can build a small test project.

Hi,

MCX does not do any sorting now, I guess I could put the parts with transparency first. That might help a bit.

But only for the drawing order issues within an object. I think some you showed are also between objects.

Would be great Arno if you can do this for the objects!

Do you have a clue how I can do this manually for the time being? If I open an obj. file it is full of numbers...!?

BTW. If I undersrood the text correct, parts with transparancy must be set last, do they?

I also had a conversation in XP Forum. I can not believe it but currently there is no solution for the issues between objects. Only within objects can be fixed. That means you can not completely avoid artefacts :-(
