• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SDK SimConnect Variables - Source of Truth

Does anyone know of any resource which is considered the best “Source of truth” for SimVars?
I’ve found multiple locations so far which contain SimVar info such as:
  • SimConnect Variable Index
  • SimConnect Variable Category pages
  • Programming API page listing Environment Variable SimVars
  • Release Notes mentioning new SimVars (not in documentation above)
  • SimVarWatcher code
All of these sources seem to have errors and/or inconsistencies so I was wondering if anyone knew of better sources of truth to discover these and reference their default units and how to use them.
Thanks!

Well, that means that the accuracy is a problem. It's work in progress and like so many other Microsoft projects, the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing.

The small fact that the SDK is still not at v1.0 after four years should give you a clue as to the accuracy of any of those sources. All you (anyone) can do is to try it and if it fails and you are absolutely certain your code is correct, put it down to Asobo not implementing it or not implementing it correctly. My favourite foul-up in the SDK (can you have a favourite foul-up?) is in the WASM debugging section. It implies that once you have attached the debugger to the sim you never have to detach it to debug a new dll.
