• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.

    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

SOLVED: X-Files changed during export?

Good morning,

I recently struggle with the export of x-Files:

- I export the model from 3dsMax 2017 as x-file
- I import this X-file in MCX to add PBR features
- I export it again from MCX as "P3D v4.4 object x file" with all material settings just as I want them (negative z-bias, transparency, PBR...)
- when I now use this newly modified x-file for the groundpoly wizzard, all previously changed material settings are screwed up. Transparency settings are set for opaque instead of transparent for the changed materials, z-bias is positive, "allow bloom" and "no base specular" is activated

(but all settings are ok for those from the original, unchanged materials)

As it already took me several hours to do the same changes over and over again I am pretty frustrated as the procedure worked well like 4 weeks ago with no changes to any part in the work order and the used programs.
Is there any solution for this problem?
 
Hi,

Many of those settings you mention are not relevant for PBR materials, so that means there values are not stored in the x file. Hence the GPW also doesn't read them.
 
But z-bias is required for the layer placement and if it is now positive for some materials it cannot work properly or am I wrong? The layers are messed up and all materials which should have transparencies (lines, dirt etc.) appear as solid colors in P3D.

I just changed the position some lines in the max-file, and everything was fine with the old versions of the x-file

How old is the version you refer to? Nothing changed to exporting x files recently.

Zbias is still part of PBR, but the values should be positive again in PBR. Many of the detailed settings for transparency are gone in PBR materials.

Transparency isn't fully gone, it still applies within the Albedo map. Make sure within the material editor that the PBR material is set accordingly:

If the material in question "is PBR material" is set to "true" and the "render mode" of the material is set appropriately. That is if transparency is used within that material, you might have to change the "render mode" to "Translucent" or "masked", mostly likely "Translucent". The z-bias is handled at the bottom of the material editor.
 
Problem is now gone. I did nothing else than like 20 times the same stuff...bizarre and pretty much nerv-racking...
