• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Some projects that I will upgrade from FSX to P3D and MSFS

Hello,

Thank you for your concern and I assure you that Covid has not yet touched me ;-)

The PBY project is progressing very well even if sometimes I have some problems to solve but on the whole I am happy with my work.
Problems: Trying to make a seaplane when Asobo has not yet planned a "support" is quite difficult and sometimes it is under the reality !

What is missing? Among other things, the system variables that allow to manage this type of aircraft:
- the variables on the floats: to have drag when extending the floats I had to bypass the spoilers variables to manage this,
- the contact points of the floats at the end of the wings: even if we define contact points on these floats, when they are folded, the wakes still appear, so we still have to work around these difficulties,
- the opening of the tank doors, the water drop, the effects with an SDK and a Visual Effect Editor that has not stopped changing, it is not easy.
- etc.
Nevertheless, I managed to solve these 3 big problems and a test version has already been released for more than 3 months!

I'm working on a point that is very important to me: a much more realistic animation of the propeller blades at startup.
TGibson had succeeded with D Dawson to make a spectacular animation on the DC-6 and the Convair 340 for FS9. I have found on FSDeveloper some post very interesting like this one : https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/custom-engine-starter.437814/#post-753580
Unfortunately the FS9 specificities that allowed this were no longer supported by FSX and even less by MSFS. So I'm working on some Heretic's stuff (DC-3 Enhanced) to be able to make propellers that can turn two or three times at a very slow speed (lubrication) and then launch the engine. To do this, I need to play with the management of events and be able to capture them to inhibit them and place my code in their place.

All this stuff is made without more documentations and needs huge efforts to research, understand what works and what doesn't and test (each test takes a long time)
The project is progressing well, in fact I am currently testing this start-up animation.

Hey thanks for your reply! Much appreciated! As is your hard work - it sounds like Microsoft are not being incredibly helpful, which goes some way to explain why there aren't that many third party planes available as yet.
Sounds like you have your work cut out for you, trying to find ways around the limitations you encounter.
Is the test version available for download, and if so, where can I find it?

Look forward to seeing your work published!
We'll be cheering you on from the sidelines..
;o)

Cheers and thanks again!

Hi,
This project continues to move forward and I am at a stage in the development process.
The management interface was added this morning, and some technical points that were bothering me have been resolved.
- Floats can now be commanded via a mouse click in the VC or by some keyboard/joystick affectations (spoilers events),
- Water drop doors can now be commanded via a mouse click in the VC or by some keyboard/joystick affectations (flaps events),
- Configurations (stairs, refuel, pilot, copilot, doors) can be managed by a tablet in the VC,
- Water drop or delayant drop are included as effects
The management of the engine logic and other essential components still need to be studied and debugged but the whole thing is in place. The water management during the drops is done by a javascript script but the refuelling with water still needs to be written.
I'll see if I can get a stable WIP version up and running (as soon as possible) so that those who want to test can do so. This WIP will be stored on my personal website http://frenchvfr.free.fr

Hi,

This project started in 2010 is also a pleasure for me: when I was a young boy, I lived near Marignane in France where many Canso of "Protection Civile" (http://cansonet.free.fr/Operateurs/PROTEC/body_protec.html) where based during 1960-1970.
In Summer, I could see them flying over the "Etang de Berre".
As my father also worked at Air France for more than 38 years, I wanted to give him a nod and add other textures with a slightly different 3D model.

Theses 3 repaints are some livreries used by the Canso NC9767 during many years. This model isn't finished currently, some details should added, adapted because it use the same 3D base that the first model.

Mince! J'aime celui la! Dang! I love this one! It's awesome - I think I like the shape more. Not such a blunt nose! Can't wait to see it fly, read: fly it myself.. I'm sure it's gonna be an experience, judging by your description of the work you've done!
(Excuse my poor french - haven't spoken much since high school, and that's been a few decades ago... lol)
Is the 'Protection Civile' still stationed where it was when you were younger, and if so, what planes do they use these days?
I suppose all the problems you're encountering with the Catalina will eventually help you with the CL-415, right? I see there's a CL-515 out now too.. Not sure what the differences are.
Marignane looks like it's a pretty town. Never been to the south of France - looks like I need to, at some point.

Whaaouuuh !

Protection Civile was an old association, I don't know if it still exists. Other organisations have taken over this function since then. They are now based in "Nimes-Garrons".

The Canso was abandoned in the 70's (too unstable during scooping) and France chose to take/lease Canadair CL-215 with piston engines from Canada. These CL-215s were then modernised and used turbocharged engines (=> CL-215 T, T for Turbo propulsor), and it is these latter engines that have equipped the CL 415s among others.

Since 2013, when this site was created, I have always tried to maintain 2 versions of my site: one in French and one in English. The flag at the top left of the menu line allows you to switch from one site to the other. Our files are protected by a "user/password" against hotspots, unfortunately the use of Google Translate is to be avoided because this software also modifies these identifiers.

I'm tired of answering the same questions every day from people who use Google translate without even reading the first page of the site where a flag points out the multiple versions of the site.

So, I have just modify the banner page which no one reads because everyone rushes to the Web links and finds themselves in this situation. Use the good flag for your natural language, it will save you unsuccessful attempts and I will systematically reply to the readers to take the trouble to read your editorial.

Thank you.

Thanks so much! I've just downloaded the file - can't wait to fire it up... I'll let you know once I've had a chance to fly it.
Cheers!

Thank you for your good work, the Catalina is one of my favorite Airplanes and I am so happy since I noticed that you will bring it to life in FS.

Hi,

The version 0.7.7 is almost ready, still some small checks (my eyes are always bigger than my stomach and I add more each time, which always takes me a little more time).
Nevertheless, here are the various versions that will be available in this release (they are not finished, there is still some work to do...).

The first three repaints are three of the various liveries that C-FCRR or N9767 successively sported during its "career.
An Air France version of the model with blister:

The " Princess of the Stars", from the blistered model:

The version used for the Okavango operation with the blister model:

Lastly, the water bomber version of the Buffalo-Airways for our friends of SAVETHECANSO (a canadian association http://www.savethecanso.com 😞

On the blistered model, which is more of a collector's aircraft used for discovery flights, the owners have converted it to carry a few passengers.
It was last based at Melun-Villaroche. Here is a view of the interior layout: the volumes are rough, I would like to add a lot more details later.
This already allows you to see the 5 compartments from the back to the front:
- the blister lounge with two sofas, accessed from the outside by a retractable staircase "Caravelle style" (it will be animated and controllable),
- the passenger lounge,
- the technical part where the ballast tanks were on the water-bomber,
- the navigation part which is often used to store luggage or technical elements,
- the cockpit.

With the arrow keys on the keyboard, I have fun moving around the whole aft section during flights or using the programmed views.
