• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Stumped!

Redesigned my local airport. Used Sbuilder for scenery and "flatten". Since FS9 ADE does not allow us to use flatten polys.

What has me stumped is that a while ago I must have made some edit or some change and I cannot remember what I might have done

Problem is that when I takeoff, and when I taxi, my aircraft behaves as if it is off airport. Meaning it porpoises up and down. It seems as if FS9 forgot about my airport being their.

Not sure where to start to check. I really do not want to have to start all over.

If someone can give me a list of items to check I thank you in advance.

ADE does create flattens for FS9.

Some runway and taxiway textures have bumps built in. As a test change the textures to concrete or asphalt and see if the bumps stop.

I was under the impression they didn't work Sruffy? Hmmm Im confused. Thanks Jvile I will try it....

Ok. Great but I still have a bumpy ride for take off runs and while taxiing. Same as before. I just set up a flatten earlier tonight and to no avail. Now could it be something to do with Sbuilder Scruffy? I have a lot of scenery poly's going on.

just saying you made a flatten and now you have a bumpy ride does not explain other issues.

Why did you have to flatten your local airport which already had a default flatten?
Did you enlarge the ground area of the airport landclass?
When you created the flatten is it the exact same altitude as the default airport or did you increase/decrease using flatten?
If you changed the default airport altitude using a flatten did you reset all the altitudes of the runway data, starts, ILS, etc.?
If you changed the default altitude of the airport using a flatten did you create a preload airport header with the new altitude and place the preload bgl in your Scenery\World\Scenery folder?

You also didn't answer Jim's original question. What type of surface (asphalt, etc.) are you taxiing on?

Ok,

Why did you have to flatten your local airport which already had a default flatten?
That is the question. It WAS flat. However, and I am not sure why, everywhere I taxi, or takeoff etc, things behave as if one is doing an off airport taxi somewhere.

Did you enlarge the ground area of the airport landclass?
Yes, I have been changing landclass and reshaping. The original airport was completely in error, layout, etc. There were two different landclasses meeting in the middle of the airfield due to underlying FS9 stock scenery. So
I had to install, learn, run, and make edits with Sbuilder. I have been trying to get a good background since the default airport backgrounds in Sbuilder say do not use on them.

Why is that, by the way?

When you created the flatten is it the exact same altitude as the default airport or did you increase/decrease using flatten?
Same exact altitude I did not change flatten or airport at all.

If you changed the default airport altitude using a flatten did you reset all the altitudes of the runway data, starts, ILS, etc.?
See above.

If you changed the default altitude of the airport using a flatten did you create a preload airport header with the new altitude and place the preload bgl in your Scenery\World\Scenery folder?
See Above.

Thanks JX I appreciate it!

YOU DON'T SAY!!

Thanks for the help guys!!

I had changed my runway to Shale. Reason for this was that I am trying out FS9 Evo scenery. Well Evo was clashing with my runways and taxiways. So.

I changed things around with different surfaces. I had no clue some would have bumps etc. Now that I know that it makes sense and actually is quite a cool feature. My taxiways were all bituminous.

Now that I have updated all the taxiways and main runway all is well.

Thanks again!!

Airport backgrounds are VTPPolys, not landclass.

You can use any of the Assembled textures from 1182-1199.

Thanks for the images. I hadnt noticed before.

So what do the Named do and Assembled etc Can you explain them to me a little?

Thanks!!!!

While I'm here, I am not able to find a landclass if there is one that has mainly trees but some buildings here and there. That is how KLZU is. Then there is huge areas of city too.

Those I can handle. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

I will try, noting that I haven't done much in SBuilder for a few years now.

Assembled textures are airport backgrounds and parks as defined in the texture.cfg which you will find in your FS9 folder. It can be opened with Notepad though I do not recommend you try to edit it.

As for named, I think the SBuilder Help describes it as well as I can...
The second option is to use "named textures". The third option is to choose from a set of pre-assembled texture names. When you use "named textures" you set a texture for each season. Here is the window to define a "named texture":

<to see the image look at the SBuilder Help file>

You can add a named texture set to the "assembled set of textures". In this way, the next time you need to choose this set you will just pick it up from a list of pre-assembled textures. The assembled texture names are placed at the end of the file polys.txt found in the Tools folder of SBuilder. The first entries, in this list, are the standard textures used by FS2004 which correspond the standard file TERRAIN.CFG.

The best way to see how these work is to experiment.

cheers,
Lane

Oh ok, that was well done! Thanks Lane.

I experimented with those assembled textures. Works well!

Where do I find "1183 Grass" it was not in my Sbuilder list? How do I get download extra texture coming from?

Thanks,

Stuart

There is no texture.cfg in the FS9 folder. Did you mean terrain.cfg?
