• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Suggestions for Future Versions 2010

I've just come across a related problem.
It's been a couple of months since I was developing Montserrat and I wanted to continue.
Can I find the google background image I was using to lay things out? No chance, it's obviously gone with the all too infrequent desktop cleanups I indulge in.
Would it be possible (once you've 'added image') to embed the file in the ad2 file?

I guess I could embed it (or them because sometimes users have many images for one project) but that could add significantly to the size of the project file.

Actually, the size of the project file is quite small (108KB in this case) compared to my project directory (2.6Mb at the moment) full of photographs and documents relating to the airport.
Oh why didn't I copy the background image into there whilst I had it :(
I know your recommendation for maximum image size is 1MB but mine are very rarely above 100KB. How much detail do you need to drop the NDB transmitter on the right spot (that whitish blob just there).
The only problem I see is when people upload their project file to the forum. But even than you could always temporarily remove the image.

Added to my list..........

Chris,

For background images I use with ADE ad2 files, I place them in a folder already set up as part of the program: either ../FSX/images or .. FS9/images depending on which sim you may be working on.

Hi Rick,

Yes, when my brain is in gear I put it in the project folder, but occasionally...

Jon,

Much appreciated.

Is there a way that models in the "model list" can be deleted all at once. Or replace a model with another. Currently if you have a model and you just updated and you want to change out those. You have to manually delete every single model and then add every single model.

Is there a possibility to switch off the image as if you where to switch off all the landclass.

[Dream mode on]
Wouldn't it be nice if there where some kind of tool in ADEX which creates automatically an apronpolygon in the exact, by icao pre-defined dimensions, taxiway widening at taxiway junctions.

Just by clicking on two connected taxiwaylines, which makes a corner, and click on the tool and there the apron!
Similar thing could be done with taxiway shoulders. Click on the segments and let the tool make an apron perfectly parallel to the segments.
[Dream mode off]

Well now - let me have a think about those :)

I forgot one. The aprons. If they could also be switch of like the landclass. One could look at the image behind it without deleting the apron.

Well the next version of ADE will allow that sort of thing

Great I can't wait.
Is there a time frame known when you will release the next version. Has it features that are nice enough to hold up some releases of afcad's?

Well I can't give a timetable. Mostly because I am in the process of trying to sell my house and move. When we sell there is going to be a break for sure. End of the year is best guess so do not hold anything up ;)

UUps, mooving is always a big work. Mooved from EU to US, to Africa, back to US to Asia, and so on.
Everytime packing every thing you own and then reastablish, thats not fun.

My little request would be to be able to group every single object. By doing that, extremly for libary objects, to be able to allign them.
Like up, down, left, right, middle allignment.
That one would be great.

Reason behind: Think about a number of buildings you just have to line up.
OK, today it works using the guides.

Example of what it could be used for:
- tents on a military airport
- barracks (s.o.)

e.g. every time you have to line up any libary objects, such as buildings, vehicles, ....

Good ideas and we have been thinking along those lines.

Direct2D rendering of the editor display?

I'm a new arrivial to ADE and FSX scenery creation in general.

How are you currently rendering the document area showing all the airport elements? GDI, GDI+, something else?

It would be nice to see Direct2D implemented for rendering the document display. This would make a dramatic increase in productivity when navigating around your layout, zooming and rotating the view or objects in the scene, especially if, like me, you frequently use large background images of satellite photography for accurate layout :)

Awesome tool that gets better every day. Keep up the excellent work.

We use a graphics engine which is a wrapper for GDI+. When we do change things I think we would look at WPF but I would not discount anything if there is a better alternative. The presentation layer is separated from the airport data.

WPF is also a great choice. I'm not familiar with the history of ADE. Are you developing with C++ or C#? I'm guessing C# considering the mention of .NET in the ADE requirements? If C# is your development tool then I suspect Direct2D may be too cumbersome to implement as I don't think there's a managed wrapper for it. It's all that pesky unmanaged C++ malarkey.

I'm looking forward to the next version supporting multiple selection and processing of objects. So if you are indeed developing in C# I suspect you'll be checking out those handy .NET generic collection classes :)

Yes it is written in C# and uses generic classes, LINQ, extension methods and generic methods along the way ;) Current development environment is VS 2010 with ReSharper, ANTS etc etc. :)

Has FSX the possibility to rank the surface texture of a runway below that of aprons? There are a lot of runways that are patched by multiple surface types. I was wondering is there where a coding solution for that. Something like maybe a no draw option(just like the apron has). But then the markings will need to end up on top.

The drawing order between elements is fixed. The drawing order of surface type within an element is also fixed. ADE draws the relationship between elements as in FS. ADE 2 will draw surface orders within an element correctly although ADE 1 does not do this. So ranking a runway below an apron is not possible as far as I know

I don´t know if not already mentioned:
For me one of the wishes is multi-selction of Objects and simply arrange them.
For Example, beiing able to select Parkings and automatically arrange them in any diection, as middle, up, down, etc, as in any other graphical orientated Tool.
Well, I can imagine this might not that simple to implement.
