• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Transparent texture problem

I was noticing some problems with the transparent textures in P3D v5, not only in airports, as can be seen from the shots now the runway no longer has transition or transparency but it is clear, is it an ADE problem or a P3D v5 bug? Is it just my problem?

Thanks.

P3d v4

P3D v5

The problem seems to involve the new Environmental Lighting setting, which is tagged as "beta" in the sim. Switch it off, and transparencies seem to work more or less normally. Turn it on, and they present bugs. I don't have a solution to this, as the sim effectively has two different lighting settings and we can't provide for both of them in single packages.

Has anybody else figured out a way around this?

I'm not sure - I use Blender so there is no dedicated v5 exporter yet that I'm aware of. As long as you back up your original files it's probably worth a shot.

But the point is that the runway with dirt material is that of ADE with its default texture, I didn't do it ....
I tried to recompile the airport with the P3D v 5 SDK but the result doesn't change.

I updated to the latest P3D v5 this afternoon and tried exporting one of my F-15 Eagles using the v5 SDK - same problem, transparencies almost invisible. It seems to me that the new version only wants PBR materials, as specular and bump maps also fail to display correctly. On PBR aircraft, bumps and specs ( or the PBR version of ) show up normally.

The only way I was able to get reflections working as per v4.5 was to double their intensity.

It seems that something fundamental regarding texture maps has changed with v5 but LM haven't said anything about it.

Yes something has changed with V5, I'm also having problems with some lights ...
So nothing can be done about ADE's default runways for now?

I may not understand this but are you saying that you want that runway to be transparent in the sim? If so did you set the transparent flag in the ADE runway properties?

No not transparent, I know there is the "transparent" runway parameter, I refer to the fact that as you see in the 2 shots above, in the p3d v4 versions the "dirt" track is blurred at the edges and the texture is also soft, while in P3D v5 it is clear the texture is uniform it seems a too clean track.

Sorry for my English….

I do not know whether it is a bug or not

I have observed the same problem not only with 'dirt' textures bit with 'grass' textures also

It is also done with grass, but I think it is the same for all runways, I remain of the idea that there is a problem that wasn't there before where I don't know.

Within P3D v5, How are you both assigning the texture - that is, is it opaque, mask, or translucent within the albedo map?

Hi,
I don't understand the question I apologize for my ignorance, but what parameters are you talking about? I'm using ADE's default runways .... I don't know if you can change the parameters in ADE for runway textures.

No you can't

Having said that there is a property available for changing the material (texture?) set for a given runway. It is shown in the SDK and is also available for taxi paths as I recall

I have no idea how it works. It existed in v4 and is present in v5. There is no way to access this via the regular property dialogs but if you have a ProKey then you can access and edit it via the raw data view

I doubt this is responsible for your issue between v4 and v5 but it may be of interest.

Thanks but the "Raw date view" parameter is not available, I have ADE free, however I don't see parameters of the property of the texture for the runway. Patience….;)
