• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE Trouble compiling and setting paths ADE 20

I have ADE Alpha 20 installed, SDK, FSUIPC 7, MSFS 20 all installed. My issue is setting the paths in ADE. Save/Build project is blanked out. Before I had the FSX version and created a fictional airport with an entire town I would like to run in FS 20. Unfortunately, FSX would crash due to the 16GB virtual memory cap. Anyway, I have started the same project from scratch with ADE 20 to be used with MSFS but have been confused on how to compile and add scenery to the sim. I have the Steam Edition and had to install MSFS on an external hard drive so there hasn't been many examples to go off of. FSX was easy, 20 is a whole different animal. Does anybody have any what I need to do?

For what it's worth I am able to connect ADE to the sim and move the aircraft around.
After reviewing the photo I realize I uploaded an example from the installation PDF. Disregard that, I'm still perplexed on how I am supposed to set all this up.
Thank you!

From the snip, it seems that you are trying to find the Microsoft version of MSFS. Have you tried to click the Steam version on the page and then click on The Find button. That should point ADE to your Steam installed version of MSFS.

I tried that. Didn’t do the trick. It finds some aircraft finder folder I installed however long ago. At times when I tried to find Steam, it CTD. I’m usually pretty good with this stuff but this has me very confused.

You are setting things up on this dialog? Settings > Options > Folders

What path is wrong? The two main ones are Content and SDK The first is where ADE goes to find stock airports etc The second is where it goes to find the package build tool

Where did you put your content?

The Find button uses information stored on the computer to find the three paths. You can set them manually but a properly set up Sim and SDK should be found

Yes. When I hit "Find" generates the wrong paths for some reason. I search for Local/Packages/Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb....but it is not there. I have searched for it and nothing comes up. At the initial installation "Find" set what seemed to be the correct paths but when I hit Build Project I got an error. I wished I has saved that error, but I cant even get back to that point. Very strange, but finding the paths manually led me here:

What path needs to be in Application? As I restart ADE I get the paths not set (applications) prompt.

I am getting a bit confused here. Are you setting up for the MS edition or the Steam edition? The image you show above seems to be not from ADE 2020 There is no box to enter application in current versions of ADE.

Sorry Brad but there was nothing in that post

I have deleted every folder associated with ADE and reinstalled it from scratch (Alpha 20). I don't know what got messed up but if you're, as confused as I am something, went wrong. Upon new installation, I see the three paths there but still only Config and SDK. Content still defaults to some random folder in an external hard drive. I followed C:\Users\bradc\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages but "packages" is empty. It would be nice to edit some default airports here and there but my main goal is to create an airport from scratch and upload to sim. Do I need Content path if I am just creating new?

for the avoidance of doubt please confirm if you are setting up for the MS or Steam edition,?

OK I need to take a look but I am out tonight

please provide a screen shot of your folder settings as they are now

Okay, thank you, sorry for being such a pain. I will say I have started the new project, I hit build and it goes through some processes and freezes. I exit but then cannot open it back up, says ADE already open. I have connected it to the sim tho. I feel I am only a few steps away. The "find" button found Configs and SDK, I manually added content but I don't believe it is correct.

You mean you entered a path that you think is wrong. The config path is supposed to contain the details of the content path. There is something odd about your installation if it did not fill the content box when you clicked Find. In any case you can enter it manually using the small '...' The path you want is the one you set up when you installed the Steam Edition and where you send Updates when the Sim offers them. It is the folder that contains the Community and Official sub folders

I think the installation did get a bit messed up causing the confusion. Everything looks correct now as far as the paths and ADE seems to be working properly. One last thing I am noticing is when I create something, say a runway, then click edit object, I am getting only the Raw Data View. Is there a way to toggle this back to the regular menu view?

The reason you are seeing the RDV Property Grid is that there are a number of new objects, functions and attributes in MSFS which are not currently in the Common Property Dialog.

You can set ADE 2020 to use the Common Property Dialog but you will not see some object types or properties. To use it rather than the property grid Go to Settings > Options > General Tab and uncheck Use Property Grid for Edit

At the moment the Common Property Dialog is not being updated and may be depreciated

If you can't find the object or properties you want in the Common Property Dialog then you can use Ctrl+Enter on the selected object to access the property grid
