    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.

Using ADE to remove unwanted trees

Hi all

I am working on a small scenery area. I am using orbx scenery NZ north island. The location of where my little airstrip is has some trees across the field and I would like to remove them.

Can I do this in airport design editor.

Regards

Rhys

The other way is to create Exclude polygon(s) using the Exclude All setting. But you need to avoid anything default you want to keep.

Hi thanks

I must be doing something wrong. I tried to add a building but nothing is showing up. I placed the building on my airfield and compiled the scenery started FSX and the re building data base does its thing but no building shows up. The bgl file is in the scenery folder.
Not sure what step I have missed

Regards

Rhys

What steps did you use to add the building? Did you use the Library Object Manager? If so, is the library BGL file (which is not the ADE file) in an active scenery folder?

Hi Tom

I am trying to remove some trees on the airstrip. I use add polygon which I place where the trees are then click on one of the polys and a new window appears as per picture I have included a pic of the trees I am trying to remove.
In the scenery folder I have my new airport file "NZAD_ADEX_RJ.bgl" and this file "NZAD_ADEX_RJ_CVX.bgl"
I can't seem to find shp2vec compiler, which when I installed ADE, the terrain SKD folder was selected. I just have two folders which are Resample Examples and Vector Examples
The SDK I have installed is Prepar3D_SDK_1.4.4747.0, as I have FSX
Appreciate any help

Regards

Rhys

That row of trees may not be autogen. Use the button with the yellow square instead and choose Exclude All. Make sure no desired default objects are within the exclusion square(s). Try that, and if the trees remain make sure that the ADE BGL files are in a higher scenery layer than any of the other files for this airport.

Thanks Tom

The scenery I am using is orbx New Zealand Norh Island that may explain it

Cheers

Rhys

Yes, sometimes you can't do anything with ORBX sceneries using typical procedures.

Thanks
Still no luck. I am missing shp2vec compiler would that cause it not to work.
I tried adding a windsock and chain fence but they did not appear after I saved and compiled my airport

That compiler is only used for terrain polygons and lines (the CVX file), not for the main airport BGL file.

Where did you compile the BGL file to?

What compiler should I use for the main airport bgl files
BglComp.exe. It sounds like you may not have pointed ADE (FSX) at the SDK if you are missing compilers.

Hi scruffyduck

I should have mentioned I am using fsx se
I am able to do something things in ade, I can add a helipad which shows in the scenery, and in the addon scenery folder there is the the bgl file and cvx file but just can't seem to remove the trees

Regards

Rhys

OK. Can you confirm that you have the compiler settings directed at the P3D 1.4 SDK installation and not the 'SDK folders' in the FSX:SE sim installation? The stuff in FSX:SE is not useable.

This is just an example. Mine will not be correct for you. You need to find the folders in your SDK P3D v1.4 installation

If you still have issues with compilers and the SDK then please post a screenshot of your settings

Thanks Jon

Here is a screen shot of the folder structure

Hi Tom

Had a play and added a windsock and building, compiled my work and launched FSX se the building new data base window did its thing, but the objects still did not appear, nor did it exclude the autogen trees.

I have some xml files for other scenery that I have been working on with object placement tool. The compiler in the FSX SE sdk compiles those into a bgl file so I tried the same xml files to see if the compiler in the Lockheed Martin folder would work but it did not produce a bgl file.

I am not getting any error messages and ADE is pointed to the Lockheed Martin sdk folder

Cheers

Rhys

Hello...

Sounds like you don't have ADE pointed to the right compiler. All need to be pointed to the LM SDK - not any of the SDK that came with FSX: SE. it is not complete.

Hi Doug

Thanks for your reply. I can confirm that ADE is pointed to the LM SDK, which is in program files (x86)

Cheer

Rhys
