• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Website down time

Nope, both still flaky. Seriously, the site is okay at this moment, but was execrable earlier.

I heard back from the hosting company and they say that our website with the current amount of traffic is near the limits of their shared hosting server that we are currently using. So the moments when the site is slow to respond are due to the server not being able to start more processes for the website,

I'm discussing options with them on how we can possibly move to a more capable server.

Sounds logical. I find if it's slow if I wait a few minutes it usually speeds up again.

So what is the "current amount of traffic"? Any Stats? Peak time curve?

We don't have installed any tools to monitor to traffic in detail, so I don't have detailed stats. But if you look at the users active you see that the amount is typically around 80 or 90 (including robots and visitors, not sure for which timeframe this number is, I think the last 15 minutes). Monthly we have around 200 to 250 GB of traffic to the website. I would think that it is mainly the amount of users and visitors at the site at the same time that causes the server load.

I still have trouble reaching FSDeveloper from Spain (at the moment).
Sometimes it works straight away, this morning around 8AM it did not and just now it took a long time to get to the website.
And I cannot imagine that there are many users at this time of the day!
Update: it just took me 3 minutes to load up FSDeveloper again!
Must be either a lot of Americans tuning to the site before going off to have lunch or a bunch of Chinese that want to know what is up before going off to bed!

Truthfully, we need an upgraded service. And unfortunately, an upgrade will cost more euros. Quite a few more. My math tells me we need about 1000 euros/year for a managed vps with sufficient CPU and memory. It needs to be managed for us because we can't find a member to do the management for us on a consistent, long-term basis. Otherwise, we might get it for half that cost.

Right now, we pay about 150 euros/year for a shared server.

Arno is working on a solution, and we'll see what happens. It's obvious to all that the problem won't just go away. But the solution will cost us some, so be prepared for a donation drive of some sort.

And it will also take some time before we know what we will do. The next two weeks I'm traveling, so I have less time to look for options.

If somebody has good experiences with a webhost that offers hosted VPS, let one of the admins or moderators know.

Really, 81? That seems to be an awfully low number to take down the performance of a website? I thought maybe 100's were online at the same time.
