• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Whale breathe

Hi,
I am adapting my minke whale MDL to make a real AI whale travel. My MDL is complete so it will be seen in P3D transparent water.

screenshot.1.jpg

For the AI part, I simply copy-paste OrcaWhale folder and replace the stuff by the minke one. For the MDL animation I simply made an up and down movement followed by a stable position. That procude a nice and natural movement.

My only problem is how to implement the whale's breathe at the right place at the right moment. I tried to analyse the orca whale FSX MDL in MCX but nothing was displayed.

Some one have an idea? Thanks.

I found the perfect spray affect (here in MCX).

Is it possible to show the effect for some seconds only when the whale breathe and how?

Thanks.

Hi Jean-Pierre,
Beautiful whale! You can definetely time the breathing - can't remember right here which parameter to switch, but I can look at it. And I would love to add the whale to the AI traffic project. There are several whale watching trips included, but the standard FSX whale is not complete. If you have more species even better - I was trying to do a cachelote at one point, but never finished the animation.

Hi Henrik,

I surely will adap my minke to make a fin whale and a blue whale.

I will examine my lighthouse effect to find how to synchronize the breath.

Note that the cachalote have a breath that point to the front-left! Nice effect challenge!

I look forward to those... and I will see if I can find my cachalote - went whale watching many times; in my living room the centre piece is a picture of Elvira - a Southern Right whale I met in Argentina. Amazing animals :D

I made several tests and I am very unable to build a realistic whale breathe.

I want a similar breathe than the FSX defauls orca whale but I cannot open the MDL in MCX to analyse it ; nothing is displayed! So impossible to know the orca breathing effect. The effect has to appear when the whale head emerge and has to stay on the same place where it appears, not moving with the whale. Like in real life!

Some help will be appreciate!

Hi Jean Pierre;

I Don't know il this is what your looking for, but in my FSX/effects i have a < fx_blowHole.fx > that is for whale breathing !

I think that's there by default

Merci Lionel,

I checked this effect with FSXTool. Unfortunatly it is not what I am looking for. I am not very familiar with this type of effect.

EDIT. I use MCX to see what effects are involved in orcaWhale and blowHole is effectively one of it. Thanks Lionel, thats the beginning of something!

BTW Henrik I have a little vertical offset of my whale in FSX. Say in FSDS and MCX the whale is just at the level of the water surface but in FSX it is below. Some feet of offset. Do you have an idea of the problem? Thanks.

Hi Jean Pierre, You can adjust that in the static_cg_height= in the sim cfg. Just increase the value.

I finnaly understand how to use Gmax and FSTool to produce sychronized effects in animation! My whale package is onn that page : http://www.jpfil.com/quebecfsx/scenes-villes-brousse-vfr.php.

Here my own killerwhales (female and male) :
Thanks all of yout for the tips!

Hi
No chance of downloading and testing before the weekend but great to see that you managed to get it to work. The couple on the video looks great.

Hi Jean-Pierre,
After a visit to a paradise for Whales in Southern Argentina during my holidays I obviously need to add some more whale species to the AI Ship projet - the modeling is done but the animations won't really do what I want them to do.... Could you share some of your learnings?

- how did you time the breathing effect / splash and the model animation?
- why isn't it possible to see some of your models in MCX, while others are visible?
- how did you construct the animation?

Below a shot of one the right whales in Peninsula Valdes - absolutely amazing to be able to see whales from the beach swimming just 40-50 meters away or having the whales coming up close looking curiously at the tourists and not least in a period of many bad environmental news to see a whale population recovering after having been hunted down to the brink of extinction.
