• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Why Does This Airport Not Work

Hi Richard

Thanks a lot. I hope some people will enjoy it.
I realized it is not a public airfield and had some difficulties to get it on GoogleEarth. But finally I could import a satview to ADE and rework it. I made the runway sloped and also had to scape the valley next to it with the farm and the two ponds. So it's a nice little scenery for using the Supercub. By the way I turned Neals Hanger towards the runway. Just saw on the photo, the door is really towards the dirt road.

Never mind the sat scenery. Sometimes it is nice and sometimes not, depending on the landclass used, the texture package used etc. I sometimes keep it, sometimes disable it.
I don't have MSFS, so no possibility to port it there. I wonder how MSFS makes this natural look of the grass and buildings. Would such a FSX scenery when ported look as good?
I'll drop a note here, when the files for v5 are ready.

thank you for that heads up on the hanger and I will 180 mine too so that it is correct in ADEx and then save and compile it for MY sims. The runway can't be sloped in V4.5 though can it? If YOU can would be cool. Beyond MY skills. I'm happy to get it like it is and working.

You could slope it by removing the runway and just add a landclass polygon in shape of the runway with the runway grass on the terrain. The other thing you can do is jus minimize the flatten to only cover the buildings and the runway inclusive the road around it.

So now it's published. Added lots of details, some clutter. The P3D5 version can be downloaded from my site (below in the signature) in the airports section.

Here is WV82 Cox Lane Field in P3Dv4.5x with USGS 1-Meter Terrain Mesh and LOD-17 (30 cm) custom photo-real imagery land class:

One need only use ADE to Add > Other Start > Runway ...to create A/C Start Locations at each end of the (sloped) RWY seen in the PR.

The flat / level (non-sloped) RWY normally created by ADE need not be used.

Cool! That was about the idea i meant to solve it for 4.5. Maybe this was even the better solution for 5.3 too, but I don't have the photoreal background. The runway just gives you some marking and lighting possibilities. Not absolutely necessary here.

My mesh is not as good an I had to shape the terrain.

What you could do is adding the buildings from my upload.

Where did you get the sat-image and mesh? How do you create the sat scenery? SbuilderX?

General work-flow overview for accessing GIS source data for high resolution Digital Elevation Maps (DEMs):

Navigate to: https://apps.nationalmap.gov/downloader/

Search: Kirby, WV, USA

Center Map on WV82 Cox Lane (on a N-S ridge S / E of "Briar Lick" roadway and W of Kirby, West Virginia (aka "WV")

Note: W of Teaberry Lane, follow circular driveway S-W off Briar Lick E-W roadway

Zoom out for desired extent of coverage

Area of Interest: click: [ Polygon ] button > left mouse click+drag: Draw Polygon's (4) corner vertices for selection of extent

{ Dataset } Tab

Data

Subcategories
> check: (only) "Elevation Products (3DEP)" and: 1 meter DEM

Data Extent > tick: 10000 x 10000 meter (actual result may vary with data set between this and 1 x 1 Degree)

File Formats > GeoTIFF, IMG (actual result may vary with data set)

click: [ Search Products ] button > In Product Results click: Download Link (TIF)

Load downloaded DEM TIF file(s) in QGIS > re-project GIS format to EPSG:4326 for compatibility with FS2Kx SDK Resample compiler.

CAVEAT: Additional details are involved in configuring QGIS output for a GeoTIFF type to be used as Raster Elevation data

I do not use QGIS; instead I use Global Mapper, so I am not familiar with all steps QGIS requires to output SDK compatible GeoTIFF DEMs

[ If you are sincerely interested in learning this work-flow, there is more info to be posted ...as time permits ;) ]
