• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Windows 10

I've been running Win10 since it's official release on the 29th July. I got the ISO & ran the install from there & simply did an upgrade of Win7 64 for starters (being cautious ;)). All seemed good so after a few days & did a clean install & again all went well & have to say it actually installs quickly. Seems to me that they have made it a blend of Win7 & Win8, so there are a few things that I have had to get used too, not being a Win8 user.

I do have some issues with it:
1. ASUS M4A89TD Pro - No drivers available & probably won't be & I don't expect there will be as it's a fairly dated board now. (I am overdue for an upgrade ;))
2. Creative SB Titanium Xi-Fi - No drivers, but should be available Oct, so Win10 uses Realtek drivers instead.
3. Saitek X52 Pro - No offical Win10 drivers. Stick works fine though in FSX, but when you unplug it, you'll find when you move the mouse, you'll get a clicking sound & mouse & keyboard won't do anything. You have to reboot. I googled & found others having the same problem.

I have only just reinstalled FSX (FTX AU & OZx) & have to say it actually runs smoother & that is without shutting down any processors that are running in the background, which I had to do using Win7. I have however turned off the UAC & Win defender, much better off using Malwarebytes & a better antivirus & also get yourself a 3rd party browser, Firefox 39 is running fine for me.

I have yet to reinstall ADE, MCX etc.. hence no progress on YSNW, but will get onto that next. But good to hear some of already there & all run ok.

So in my opinion (so far, fingers crossed) Win10 is pretty good & I am happy with it. Boots quick, runs smoothly, I just have to get used the new look/interface.

If only there was a way to turn off the bloody automatic updates...

Installed it, started it once, saw that AcesTools won't load properly and left it where it was.

Auto update has never been a problem for me. I've been used to having it on since the days of XP.

Max 9 is another thing. While I have not fully tested the Aces Tools they seem to be working properly. My problems are with the right click menu and the file browser. If I open the right click/quad menu after closing the menu it leaves an imprint of what ever was behind it. It will not go away and stays on top of the desktop and any other window even if I minimize Max. The only way to get rid of it is to restart Max. Luckily all the selections in the quad can be accessed by other means.

The other problem when opening a file in the file browser happens if I click on the rollout down arrow beside the Look In: window, Max locks up! I can navigate using the up one level or clicking on a folder in the display window but I can't touch that one little arrow.

As long as I avoid these two things everything seems to be working properly but old habits die hard.

Thanks for that Paul, I had wondered what the issues were. I can report Max 2008 doesn't suffer these problems – certainly not so far (fingers, legs and eyes crossed...)

Apparently Win10 is also screwing with GDI+ fonts too. We have a report (with screenshots) of our PL21 glass displays in the KA 350i being totally fubared... <sigh>

Can confirm the file browser issue, but not the right click menu one.

Windows 10 sets the default font sizing to 150% of normal size... which affects GDI+ display.
