• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 ADE 2020 Alpha 21 HF5

Updating the stock indexes is also not working after the location change for the generic airports.
OK Thanks Dick - I may have already fixed that in my currently worked on update but I will check

I tested here for both MS and Steam versions and was able to update the stock indexes. I will check the code though

Hi Jon. I delete baselockpack.dat and baseAirportList.dat I then update them in ADE via Update Stock Indexes. baselockpack.dat has 42732 entries. baseAirportList.dat has 39896 entries. SKBS and SKUI from APX27290.bgl are not listed in either, and I get 'Ident is Not Stock'.
If I use 'Create Project from MSFS BGL', select APX27290.bgl and try SKUI or SKBS as Ident, it does load into ADE properly.

Edited---
If I add this to the end of the baseAirportList.dat:
SKUI|No Name|No City|No State|||0303|APX27290.bgl|.0|.0|
Then I can load SKUI. No-Name becomes the name of the Airport.

So ADE is is having a problem with no name generic airports. They aren't added to the list.

Hi Jon:

FYI: In the MS-Store version the path to APX27290.bgl is:

[MSFS-2020_Packages install path]\Official\OneStore\fs-base-genericairports\scenery\0303\APX27290.bgl

Thanks Dick. I will check all this as soon as I can

Asobo keeps changing the rules, so ADE, Airport2Project, msfsbglxml, and any other apps are always kept off-balance. The adoption of XML for polygons is a good thing. But having base airports location arbitrarily moved, and including new airports without names is absurd.

It is almost as if Asobo is intentionally doing this. Each iteration is not, in itself, an entirely new sim, but they are fundamental, almost irreconcilable changes. I think we can expect these dynamic revisions to continue, as a way to protect their interests from reverse engineering.

Asobo does not abandon the developer community, continual refinements to the development process prove this, but they must know from past experience, that "ground up" changes are not taken well. If the benefits from a severe revision are not readily apparent to a degree that validates the severity, one must look to other motivations.

I don't think there is any thought of preventing reverse-engineering. I just think a guy or two decided they didn't like shapefiles. A couple more guys were a bit OCD and decided the base airports needed their own folder. There was no boss to tell them NO, because there is no need to do this. Nor was there a boss to tell them they must document the SDK first, and warn the general developer community of the upcoming changes. And as far as the additional base airports without names, that was just a program that added the airports semi-automatically, and no one thought to check if they met all the basic criteria.

I think it's lack of oversight, or the overseer needs to be replaced. This should be the rule: First, do no harm.

This reminds me of the early days when we found scenery objects facing 180 to the set heading. Turned out it was done by one guy for reasons that weren't clear and will not be since he left ASOBO without anyone checking it.

Control management ! This is a notion that Asobo don't understand.

During SU9 Beta, a lot of problems has been pointed (the window which appear during manual compilation for example) but they delivered SU9 without the corrections of theses problems ... They consider that they will do it in the next one but I don't understand in this case what is the point of a beta !

Sadly the team responsible for the Core Sim often make changes which the SDK team are not told about. This can break compiling and so on

In all fairness, MSFS does not even headline the Asobo home page, although it appears to be occupying a growing share of it. They have an entire line of games they push and they advertise game development and augmented reality. Arguably, they've never dealt with a developer community and certainly not one as robust as ours, in terms of "game loyalty," we are straight up red hat maga, from their perspective.

That would be both intimidating and inspiring and it could explain the embraceful arms length approach to us. Here we are, scruffy mini Asobo's and at the same time the harshest, most insightful critics - plus we toy with the precious code. Many of us have been developing for a "developer platform" far longer than Asobo, even multiple ones, some of us might be able to help Asobo learn to develop more effectively.

Most of you are very kind to Asobo. I think these guys are mostly amateurs which rotate constantly and all these "imperfections" are acts of amateurish negligence without any supervision. Too bad, this programming noncense will continue to the end.

Thanks Jon, your update worked perfectly!.....a big aplause for Jon up in Scotland!!!!!!

Hello Jon,
after the last update of ASOBO there is again a problem with the Airport Build. This is apparently due to the new Flightsim.exe which now executes the start of MSFS. When i push the build bottom the Flightsim.exe startet. The following error message appears and the build is not executed. Here is a screenshot of the message.

P.S. Thanks for valid my account.

I feel old and stupid but I cannot find a link to d/l the latest full installer for ADE for MSFS 2020. Could someone please point me in the right direction? I have found 2 posts with hot fixes and 1 full installer for P3D but nothing for the current installer for MSFS. Thank you

Good day, here is the link

If you are using an ADE 2020 version earlier than Alpha 21 or wish to try out the application then first install the base Alpha 21 which can be downloaded from here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/tzdvz57ksx4357n/ade_2020_alpha_21_installer.zip/file. Full installation instructions are here: http://scruffyduck.org.uk/ade_2020_help/Process.html
