• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADEX 1.60 Library Objects Data

The base stock library object database (dat) files are now available for download from the resources section here. Note that there are two files. One is for FS9 and the other is for FSX and all current P3D versions. Please read the Readme carefully before using especially if you have added any object libraries yourself since these will not appear in the stock database and you will need to add them back again.

Hi Jon,

I noticed there are a lot of missing thumbs for the extra library objects. Any chance you have thumbs for these objects?? If so, do you think you could provide your thumb folder for download??

Regards,
Rob

Do you mean for the stock objects? As far as I know the big thumbnail pack has all stock FSX objects. Also there is an even bigger thumbnail pack that contains a lot of third party (FS9) libraries. If you download the big thumbnail pack from the resources section here and that does not give thumbnails for all stock objects then please let me know the GUIDs of any stock objects that do not show a thumbnail

You can create your own thumbnails of course ;)

Hi Jon,

Have the big thumbnail pack. I was referring to your personal database of objects that was included with the latest release. For example the ramp lights we are discussing in the other thread. No thumbs for those objects. I already captured new thumbs for those lights but I noticed there are a lot of missing thumbs for the non stock objects. Didn't know if you use thumbs or not. I know a lot of guys don't bother with them.

Regards,
Rob

Right - the other thumbnail pack - the even bigger one has thumbnails for those. However you may not have the libraries they are in so they will show in ADE but not in FS. Releasing the private database was a mistake (I should have checked the databases before releasing the version) and that is why I released the stock databases - a lot of folks are confused why they have objects that don't show in FS.

Hi Jon,

Ah....OK. I will download and add the bigger thumbnail pack. I actually have a great deal of your private libraries myself. Managed to collect more than I thought since I first started using ADE. The ones I don't have haven't been to difficult to locate with a search of the usual places.

Regards,
Rob

OK - most of the libraries are in common use so if you can get them then you can use the extended 'private' database

Hi Jon,

Is it possible by any chance to extract the individual library bgl files from the ADE object dat file??

Regards,
Rob

Not sure what you mean but the Library Object Manager lists all the libraries in the database. They are lseted in the dropdown next to Library. It shows *All" when you start the LOM but click the down arrow to see the list. You can then filter objects by library if you wish

Hi Jon,

I think I am misunderstanding the actual ADE dat file. I was thinking that the dat file contains all the object library bgl's combined in a format that ADE uses. After reading several posts, the dat file is more of a list so to speak than a data base that a single file can be extracted from. For example, I was thinking if there was one of your extra library bgl files that I could not find through the usual sites, I could simply extract the necessary bgl file from the ADE dat file and add it to FSX. My mistake.......didn't even think about needing the relevant textures either.

Regards,
Rob

You are correct. The ADE dat file is a list of objects with information about them. It does not contain any models (the actual objects). Rather it contains reference information about the objects. To use them in ADE you need to have the Bgl files containing the objects installed in FS. ADE does not do that. At the moment it does not really check if the objects are available on your computer or not. It probably should....

Hi Jon,

Appreciate the clarification. After reading several posts on the subject, I realized I had the wrong understanding. As far as having ADE check the computer for the library objects, that would be a good feature. I always perform a manual search of FSX before adding a library object bgl just to be safe. I don't need any duplicate bgl's or texture files causing me any grief with the sim. Been down that road before.

Rob

The more I read, the more confused I get. I have the latest version of ADE, I downloaded the stock library object database (dat) files and replaced/backed up the ones that were included by mistake. I downloaded the large thumbnail pack and put them in a folder under the FSX folder called "Thumbs" allowing it to overwrite. I still have no thumbnails for the zillion objects that still show on the library list which don't show up in the sim when placed.
The Generic buildings still have thumbnails like they always did and show up in the sim when placed. I'm trying to add a simple tower to my airport, there are none in the Generic buildings folder and any I choose from the library folder don't show in the sim. So what do I do with this mess?
Thank you! :)

Can you please give me an example of an object that does not show up when placed? By that I need enough information to be able to identify it. Is this one that you placed after changing the dat file or before? If you can find this object in the Library Object Manager list and give me the name and Bgl file it is in then perhaps I can see what is going on.

I think the problem is, I don't have the objects. In the Generic Buildings, the files have a .gnb extension. Are these the bgl files? I don't have any gnb's in any other folder. I'm not able place objects from anywhere except the Generic buildings folder.

You must have the stock objects. the gnb extension is nothing to do with bgl files - it is an internal format to ADE that is used to store generic building data.

When you say place what do you mean? In ADE or do they place in ADE but not show up in FSX? In ADE what color are the boxes that represent the objects in the display. Again please give details of at least one object that is not displaying - at the moment it seems like you are still using the old dat file but I can't be sure

When you say place what do you mean?

Stock objects, are they in adeObjectList.dat ? When I say place, I mean in ADE, I was able to place a hanger from the Generic buildings and a windsock which both showed up in the sim. I placed a tower(s) in ADE which didn't show up in the sim. In ADE they were little yellow boxes with the dot that you can turn them with to whatever angle you like. It all looks good in ADE but anything outside of the Generic Buildings doesn't show up in the sim.
I can't play around with anything specific right now, I'm in the middle of a long flight that I don't want to quit & re-do.
