• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v2 Do I Need Two Licenses

Guys

This is starting to look like a discussion about legal matters which generally do not end well ;)

Guys

I think I may have opened a can of worms and if you feel the need to lock this thread I understand. I just wanted to point out some misconceptions about P3D that I discovered by reading the EULA in its entirety. I think there are some people who are missing out on both the enjoyment of P3D and development because of a lack of knowledge and or funds. I hope that no one will think to unkindly of me because of this.

Sincerely,
Paul

just clarifying a Little about Prepard3D, it have helped me a Lot to understand the situation. though it is not very clear yet.

:pI must read the EULA more fully, and at the same time ask Paul what kind of coffee he drinks to keep him awake till the end of the EULA document?
I drink Columbian coffee, not from Juan Valdez but from the farms formerly owned by Pablo Escobar. :yikes:

Coffee question answered. No more to say on the subject.;)

Won't get to Godwin's law.

I also had not read the P3D license descriptions and EULA in quite a long time, and was surprised as to how vague it (still) was.

IMHO, it is important for end users and developers alike to have an alternate source of insight and discussion on the options for use of P3D, as the LM-P3D website is not very clear on what those purchasing and licensing options actually are, and this thread has raised some legitimate questions. :pushpin:

Some here may simply wish to develop for FSX, "port" a version of their FSX add-on content to P3D via a working knowledge of the 'freely-downloadable' P3D SDK, but have the Beta testing done in P3D by someone else.

And if a would-be developer wished to make their package available via either a ex: PayPal "Donation link" or via an online retail website, they may wish to have a much more clear understanding of what their options may be for purchase of a P3D license (and whether or not that is actually required), as IMHO, the LM-P3D website is not very clear on what those purchasing and licensing options actually are. :scratchch

It's not a problem and my comment is not aimed at you or any single member. We appreciate the input of everyone and respect their views and value their thinking. I was just reminding folks that discussions of things legal can sometimes go downhill and that our advice is always to contact the supplier for clarification on their legal terms and conditions. We do not like locking threads and usually that only happens if things become personal, stray beyond our general rules, or 'lose the plot' :)

And adding to Jon's statement... as a moderator and friend to all here, I advise everyone to protect themselves in all matters legal. This means abiding EULAs and regulations as you see them, and NOT divulging possible diversions from those regulations on the internet (intentional or not). Seek legal counsel if needed. Ask the source for clarification (Lockheed-Martin in this case).

I just installed the P3D v3 SDK after reading the EULA and agreeing to it, yes I read the whole thing. Two points of interest that I noticed which add to the distinction between the SIM and the SDK.
Underline by the author.
If Licensee purchased support and/or subscription services for one of Licensor's products, such support and/or subscription services shall not apply to the SDK or Licensee's use of the SDK.
And this.
THE SDK IS PROVIDED "AS-IS" WITHOUT ANY REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTY WHATSOEVER. LICENSOR DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL REPRESENTATIONS AND WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INTERFERENCE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS.
More food for thought.

The SDK is provided free which means that the users have no rights against Lockheed Martin. The only right users of v3.0 have is a refund within 60 days.

Forgive this frivolous question, but in the real world, how many FS developers here ...actually do much (or any) flying in FS ? :duck:

In FSX my default flight is the Finney Ground Crosshair Plus in slew mode at whatever area I'm developing at the moment.

I pick a country and fly from a to z. As I come in to land at some obscure airport, I think, this could be so much better. And that's me busy for the next few weeks. So flying, yes, lots of it, developing airports, lots of that too.

I know everyone wants to do the right thing and prevent further trouble. Personally, I don't think LM want to put any developers to the law suit.
If they do, who else will develop add on for them after that. That will be bad for them and the developers too.

I also use the same default flight configuration, except that I also have the saved FS Simulation rate set at the slowest speed.

Sometimes I wonder why I am moving so 'slowly' when I attempt take-off ...after changing aircraft to the Trike for a test flight ! :D

When I fly it's usually just a short flight testing a friends model or scenery. My longest flights are with AAM or other FD related software open on the second monitor. There was a time when I would fly quite a bit in MP, seven years in VUSN, but those days are long gone.
