• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX FS2004 to FSX Aircraft Conversion Tutorial

Hi,

I have reworked my online tutorial:

http://www.calclassic.com/convert_tutorial/index.html

due to getting more experience and discovering ways to minimize the problem of the animations collapsing after Export. I have now converted four FS2004 MDL files to FSX format successfully. I still get the animation collapse quite often, but an Export/Import cycle or two has fixed the problem so far. I do this often during the conversion, and it seems to help.

Hope this helps,

Hi again,

I have once again edited my tutorial AND the modeldef.xml entries so the landing and taxi light splashes work in P3D.

Hope this helps,

Hi Tom,
Rather than go through 7 LODS (AI aircraft) with multiple parts to hide show using visibility code, could I....
Use my source file (FSDS .fsc) and create a new fsc file just with those parts on to import into MCX, tagging them on their own, then merging in MCX with an aircraft missing those parts?
It would be a lot quicker than searching through the heirarchy editor trying to find them.

Yes, that is certainly possible. I've used that technique to add antennas, etc. to make different aircraft versions.

Hello all,

After several attempts to convert a FS2004 fighter aircraft to P3D V4.5 I am now really satisfied with the result: everything works like a charm with the exception of the canopy animation.

For the different canopy parts I used the visibility condition "custom_part_Visible_movement". The problem is that when he aircraft comes to a complete stop the canopy simply disappear instead of rotating ....

In the MCX animation editor the canopy animation works well so my problem is to find the way to trigger it properly.

Can someone pointing me to the right direction ?

Thanks

I used the custom part visible movement I found in your guide. This one seems to return a digital event if not linked to an animation thus the disapearance of the canopy.

Which one? If your canopy should never disappear, then the Visibility Condition should be None.

Instead of a visibility condition I finally used an animation code I found for that particular canopy animation purpose which worked well
