• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Global AI Ship Traffic FSX, P3D and MSFS2020

If amphibien can land on theses lacs, if should be possible to hack some variables and use it to solve your problem as (a: sim on ground) or similar variables.

I guess the problem is in the very simple contact points for the ai models, because Knud who is doing much of the first testing on the project, noticed that with a pilotable ship he could sail on the lake. In principle it could be solved by editing the static_cg_height to 182 metres - for those ships only sailing on e.g. one of the lakes it would be possible, but on the rivers like Mississippi where the water level gradually raises I can't see the solution. And of course then the next problem is that I if I edit the static height then I might have to launch a fix at the first update... or the maybe the following... I don't know if the AI ships could work with an "old" set of contact points - I think to remember that ships in FS9 had contact points like planes...

This is what I also discovered with my ships that sailed up the St. Lawrence Seaway. A little upstream from Montreal, where the river level is 62 feet, the Atlantic Huron only emerged from its cabin. In Montreal, where the river level is 16 feet, a few miles downstream, the hull appeared. The boat was completely out of the water at Lake Saint-Pierre, a good distance downstream from Montreal, where the river level is 0 feet. For the moment, therefore, my ships will leave from Lac-Saint-Pierre.

I have put a bug report on zendesk, hope it can be solved quickly... Meanwhile we better distribute life jackets on ships sailing upstream...

The ships are moving but I don't see their wake!

This is an extraordinary package in every sense, in these days I went in search of ship traffic around the Italian coasts and the only negative thing I notice is the lack of wake of the ships in navigation. Although each ship has its [Effects] in the .cfg file and the Effects folder is present.

From what I know so far the wakes or other effects have not yet been implemented in MSFS2020. On the other hand, is the link to download the AI boats already available?

Could it temporarily help to move the object origin of the ship models designed to travel the great lakes below or above the actual model to the desired height? In land based objects the world origin in Blender is used as a reference point and if you make for example a hangar that is partly below the origin point that part will be sunken into the ground. So let's say that your lake water level is 10 meters above sea level maybe put the ship 10 metres above the origin point bevor exporting the model?

Disregard, I see that you already thought of that but the further comments where hidden. Sorry

Henrik, reading through all this now, what a massive effort on your part. Bless your soul, man.

I don't have MSFS yet, as I get the impression that it is not fully baked -- your thread seems to confirm this opinion - but I did want to ask this question: you had mentioned a few pages back that there would be no hard surfaces? Are none of the ships (so far) landable in MSFS?

Yes, Hard Deck Simulations have released a fully working aircraft carrier complete with catapults.

Ah right, I did see that, yes.

Well not full working. It's static, and the animations don't work (on demand) and there are some other shortcomings. But clearly they are the only game in MSFS town right now, so they are the leader in the clubhouse.

Thanks :D You know the drill to get such a project going... Hours and hours, but luckily also a good team around.

Yes, MSFS is still kind of a moving target, which also made me take it easy and not jump into a full conversion. Once this first version is out I will start working on a real MSFS version, but while MCX can do fast conversion to .gltf I want to do at least all the ships with hard decks as real MSFS models, that is with PBR, emissive lights, upgrade on highly visible parts etc... I didn't count the models with hard decks but it should be around 300, so it will keep me entertained for a while and I really hope that MSFS will stabilize meanwhile. I don't want to join the crowd in saying it was launched too early - in real life I also work with product development and it is always a balance: wait for the ultimate perfect product and you will never launch. Launch early and you might get beaten up for glitches - I think MSFS is already a joy which I simply couldn't imagine when I was a teenager in the eighties and tried the first flightsim.

Global AI Ship Traffic was scheduled to be released on Monday or Tuesday according to the author´s info. It has been rescheduled? Thanks

yes, there is a full time job and family which has priority... Hopefully tomorrow or Saturday if nothing comes up. Beta 2 was just sent to a few of the beta testers for a last check.

I just posted a request for reintroducing wakes in MSFS on forum.flightsimulator.com . Please support with your vote so the ships can get some life :D

I posted a bug report regards to the sinking ships on zendesk, which is now marked as solved... I hope that means we will see the ships resurface in one of the next updates...

"Solved" in Zendesk just means that the report has been noted and accepted into their internal bughandling system. Unfortunately it is no guarantee that it will be solved and no indication of schedule...
