• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

KTRI Tri-Cities Regional Airport (Bristol, TN/VA)

Thanks Tic.
I plan on using volumetric shadows on the bigger buildings but not on the really small details (doesn't that require more of your PC?)

As for ground polygons, I use your spline method to create the outlines of the asphalt adn stuff. As a reference image I use an sbuilderx or national map image. If I use a sbuilder image I throw it into ADEX to get the dimensions of the image and then I make a plane in gmax at 0,0,0 coordinates. From there on I use your method with modeling and then I export it with MakeMDL for fs2002 and bglc_9 to compile after ASM tweaking. I am most familiar with this method as I used it from the start of my fs scenery design 'career'. I will change to MCX as it is indeed way faster and easier to use so thanks for the tip :)

Greetings from Southwest Virginia! Looking forward to this one with great interest!

Well look where I ended up today.

Nah, drove over. My girlfriend lives in Abingdon, VA. I'm right outside of Wytheville. Are you air traffic control? I may have met you before! Been in the tower a time or two...... got a red exclamation mark as a response for my application to the FAA the other day, despite having spent 2 years at a CTI school :/

After a busy week I have continued the work on KTRI again. I started working on the gates of the terminal and I also created the jetway (which will work with ctrl-j as well as SODE if the jetway feature is released). I also included a render of the ground poly showing it's current state and one of the hangars arnobg modeled and I have started unwrapping(more to follow soon).

Check out flickr for the full resolution 4K renders. Hope you like this and feedback is more then welcome. Will be showing in sim pictures soon hopefully!

Thanks Dave! I might have some previews tomorrow already as I have a lot of time to work on the scenery(not sure if I will spend all this time working at it though:D).

YES!!!! I am so excited for this. Don't forget to extend that parallel taxiway near the cargo area... I think that's finished now :D

That's great to hear! I know now that taxiway R extends from the cargo area to the runway but we don't have updated aerial imagery yet so we'll have to wait a little time to acquire it.

Yup, it has made easy access to good photos for the project!

There's always next time, the way they hire doesn't exactly make the most sense.

You are correct it has been completed for quite some time actually yet still not on the charts. Go figure once again the FAA taking it'S time... At least there's a NOTAM for it.

Last time I was up there I dragged a friend along who wanted to see what ATC is all about, there was a hellacious thunder storm that day and I remember the only traffic was a little low wing that popped out of the soup and bounced his way all the way to the end of the runway.

I've been meaning to hit them up to come visit again with the lady friend. she's caught the flying bug herself and we ride out to the airport all the time.

Really nice work..! I wonder how you make ground textures look so cool :P keep on going :) regards

Thanks guys, glad you like the previews!!

@HGC125 The ground textures are either edited photos I took myself or edited textures from cgtextures.com. I use various layers to make it more realistic.
