• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

New material editor

Hi Bob,

Your observation is correct, at the moment the boxes list nearby sizes that you can resize to, but not the current size. Would be good to show that somewhere as well, I agree.

While the menu listings don't show the current size, the line for that texture in the main box shows the current size - isn't that enough?

Hi Arno,
I use MCX to see the mdl that I just exported. When I do that, the texture is not visible. I know that MCX will see the texture in DDS and BMP. Would that be possible to see in PSD too? I was wondering if it is possible to convert the texture from PSD to DDS or BMP too.
If it can do that already, please forgive me for the question. But I cannot find the way to do this task.
Best Regards,
Tic

It should already read PSD files,... that was made available I believe in late August (or early September). I haven't noticed a PSD of mine not showing recently,...

Yes, if your model uses psd textures and modelconverterx can find them on the texture path, they should be loaded.

I have converted my PSD files to DDS files within MCX,.. I can't say that it will convert to BMP,.. I haven't tried. But then again I haven't converted my models to fs9 either yet.

Hi,

Any texture format that modelconverterx can read, can also be exported to any of the texture formats supported for writing. So yes, psd can be saved a bmp, dxt bmp or dds.

Is there a way to be able to click the header above the materials to sort them alphabetically? Sometimes if there are a lot of textures its hard to track down an issue scrolling around the list.

Thanks

Hi,

At the moment not, but that would be a good addition. Are you referring to the list of materials on the property tab or to the list of textures on the textures tab?

Properties. It would help to compare that list with say the file list in windows explorer or even your texture editor.

Thanks

I don't know when I load up the mdl exported from FS2004 gamepack, MCX cannot find the texture that I use in Gmax. Even I add my path of texture to those psd files that the model use. The log said "cannot find the ..texturename.bmp" file. MCX does not load up PSD file using in that MDL. It keeps looking for BMP instead.

Hi Tic,

The object you are loading should reference the psd file. So for example a collada file made with sketchup can reference a psd file. But when you export from gmax the texture extension is changed, so that's why the psd files are not loaded in your case.

Thanks Arno for clarify this for me.
So, if it would be nice if MCX can load up the texture that we point it to (not just the model refer to) and convert to DDS or other file.

Hi,

I think it would get confusing if modelconverterx suddenly loads another texture. The only exception to this is the bmp and dds file equivalence that fsx also has. So if you want the psd to load, you will have to tell in the material editor that the specific material uses the psd texture.
