• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

New tool: Whisplacer

hi I´m trying to download your tool but when I click the link I get this error:

Firefox cant find this server lc0277.nerim.net.

Hi,
I have Whisplacer working, i've made my first project and saved it. It shows up in "Addon Scenery/scenery" as a BGL.
However, if i shut down Whisplacer and lose connection with FSX the objects disappear and when i start FSX to show the scenery i created they too are not there.
How do i get the scenery project to show up in FSX after it has been saved and whisplacer is shut down?

Although there are different ways to get to a BGL using Whisplacer, I always use 'manual compile' (choosing BGL Compiled Scenery) once I've exited FSX. However Whisplacer doesn't automatically give it a .bgl extension, so you need to add this to the saved filename yourself.

Thanks for the reply.
I have the new BGL file in the scenery folder and i looked into properties of the file and it states it is the filename.bgl

In Whisplacer in the paths directory under configuration, i have put the BGLComp Path as SDK\Environment Kit\BGL Compiler SDK

I then pressed "Manual compile" and it said it has parsed with exit code "0".

But still nothing showing in FSX when i restart it.

I'm obviously doing something seriously easy and wrong but i'm scratching my head.

I initially tried renaming the file and put .bgl on the end. But when i opened the FSX it came up with scenery error. When i opened the properties of the file it said it was filename.bgl.bgl so i deleted the .bgl i put on the end and kept it as it was when i saved it in Whisplacer. But still no joy in seeing it within FSX.
The only time i get to see the scenery is when i have whisplacer open and live preview.

I think i have found my problem.
I have Horizon VFR GENX2 scenery for part of the UK i fly in most. When i attempt to create scenery with either Whisplacer or OPT in SDK and save the BGL, put it in the Addon Scenery/scenery folder it does not show on Horizon scenery.
I tested this as i made some more scenery for a part of the UK i do not have Horizon scenery for, just using the default FSX scenery and the BGL works perfectly.

So, how do i get the BGL's to work on Horizon scenery? I have trees that worked fine with Annotator but for some reason the BGL objects won't show unlike the trees in Horizon scenery.I have tried placing the .bgl files into the Horizon 1.2m and 2.4m photo scenery folders too without any joy.

EDIT: Problem Solved. Had to make my own scenery folder within the Addon Scenery parent folder. It now works fine.

BINGO! Congrats on the simple solution. Addon Scenery folders sit down the list in the Scenery Library, with Horizon VFR GENX2 above it at a higher priority? So your work gets placed just until the other scenery gets read and all of it's exclusions are implemented. Then your work would be gone.

Think of scenery as layers on a cake. Smaller layers go up on the top. FSX is the big layer at the bottom, the Horizon VFR GENX2 is the next biggest layer and then your work is the piece that gets put right at the top.

Yum, cake sounds good early in the morning... :D

That's a good way of putting it. I've learn't a lot from this forum and another in the last few days. Some very knowledgeable people around!

Hello everybody. I juste found this great tool. But i don't know how to put a background image.
If somebody can help me with a great tutorial, it will be fine.
Thank.

Hi,

Go to Tools -> Library Manager. There you can add new user library BGL files or even load single MDL objects into your XML file (the last will geo-lock them of course).

I go to the library, and click the Tools/Library manager/User ,and Add BGL library, and browse to my .bgl model, then add it to a airport, save the model in the airport's scenery folder ,anythings wrong? But there is nothing in FSX ,By the way ,where did the textures for the model go ? It's driving me crazy ,thanks

The library bgl and its textures should be in an active scenery folder already. WhisPlacer just places an instance of the object.

Thank you so much.My problems has been solved ,but it's ok to put bgl into the game that way.Is it possible to create a thumnail for my model, so that I can see its preview live in the game ,that way the placement will be more accurate, now I've got to do that several times before it is accurate.Because I have satellite image as the background of the airport in the FSX.Thanks

Yes, WhisPlacer can do live placement in FSX as well. You first need to export your library to SimObjects and then you can connect WhisPlacer live to FS.

Thank you ,I finally figured out how to do that by creating a folder in Simobjects/Misc?Whisplacer_scenery.Hoped it may help someone else. But is it true when I try distribute my model to others. To let the models work properly,I've got to make the model in an active folder before the airport can show it right way.I mean another folder not the one of the airport you created.Like the default models work

Hi,

The sim object folder is only for the live preview. When you distribute your scenery you would just put your library BGL file in the scenery folder of your project.

the preview works very well,I could put the model wherever I wanted to put it .But when I deleted the original models in an active folder,There is nothing left in the game when it is running

The library bgl has to remain in the scenery folder. When you save the placement bgl and close the live preview that's what's being used.

I guess We can use the default models ,without not necessarily saving some models in active scenery folder, because it's already in the an active folder in the game, right? The same apply with the models we make ourselves
