• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Transferring P3D v4 (and earlier) project files to use with P3D v5

Ruben, I guess I need to ask you a couple of "basic" questions to educate me.
1. Do you have ADE installed? If yes, what version is it? If no, I would ask you to install the current "Development" version as it fully supports P3Dv5.
2. Do you now have the ADE manual that Jon mentioned?
3. Which airport are you seeing the terminal being overlaid with the "stock" terminal?
4. If you have ADE installed, are you familiar with the use of "Add Position Markers" and "Add Exclusion Rectangles"? (see the attached pic)
Let me know your answers and we will take this education session to the next level. :)

Hi Lemon, first of all the information you gave me helped me a lot since the default terminals were removed, everything was super good.
As for your questions, I actually have ADE v 179 installed, I use P3Dv5 as I tell you and I am new to using ADE, I am not very skilled in using it, but surely seeing some tutorial and certainly with your help (I really appreciate it) I will be able to learn .
the scenarios I have are developed by third parties and I have already fixed two thanks to your help, I wanted to fix the MDSD Santo Domingo scenario but when compiling it marks an error, I remember that in previous comments you mentioned that, how can I correct those errors and what looks good without the default terminal on top of the stage added to P3Dv5
P.S. thank you very much for your help and sorry for the inconvenience but you have helped me a lot thanks and to order

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum and I don't know if should to introduce me on some thread, if it is so haven't seen, sorry.
About the transfer of some airports to p3dv4 to p3d5, I noticed that after correctly carrying out the procedure in the previous version of ade i could see the list of new exclusions. but with the latest version the list is empty ... even if it seems to me that the exclusions are correctly made.
is everything normal?
thanks and sorry for my english

Hello all, thanks for this great help to get the airports ported from 4 to 5.

But there is one more problem im running into.

even after everything is completely done - according to the process described here, i am left with the MAIN TERMINAL BUILDING of the airport - and nothing i do in ADE will get rid of it...

So i searched and found by looking at the stock data folder where the stock version of the airport is kept, that in ( P3dv5 > Scenery > 0001 > OBX07110.bgl ) STILL HAS THE BUILDING IN IT!!
so to delete the MAIN TERMINAL Building, i have to remove this file.

The only problem is - I cant see if im deleting anything else that i might not want deleted......

Has anyone ran into this problem? if this is a solution for FINALLY getting rid of that one annoying building then great, but I'd really like to hear what jon thinks about this one!

Cheers

In investigation of the smaller airports around the vicinity of this one - they are gone also. so ......the question is.....
Is there a way to edit this OBX07110.bgl ????? to just remove the buildings for the one airport>??

I hope I might be able to help... Simply load the "stock" airport into ADE, then select the terminal object and "edit" it which will provide you with a window that lists a number of statistics but also lists the "coordinates". Copy those coordinates.
Then load your version (project) of that same airport into ADE.
Then select the "Add position marker" and place a position marker onto your project.
Double click on the position marker, select the box "Set by drag" and then enter the position (Lat and Long) of the stock terminal that you copied down from the opened stock airport.
Select OK and this will place a RED + at the log / lat position.
Then select the "Add Exclusion Rectangle" option in ADE. Your cursor will change to a "+" and position the + at the upper "left" corner of the Position Marker, depress the LEFT mouse button and drag the box that will form to the opposite (lower right corner) side of the Position Marker, release the mouse key and a rectangle will be drawn that just covers the Position Marker. You will be asked what you want to exclude. The default is "All" and that is what you want.
Now recompile your project and the "stock" object at the coordinates that you entered for the Position Marker, will no longer appear.
I have attached a couple of screen copies to help.
Hope I made this clear, if not, please tell me.

Best regards

SINCERELY THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!
i literally spent most of my day beating my brains on this problem. WORKS LIKE A CHARM!!!!!
:cool::wizard::):):):):)

:)
Glad it worked for you and dont feel like the only one that has struggled with that...I spent more than a day on it myself.
Super glad it worked for you.
If it were not for this site and the forums, I would be lost....
Many thanks for the very kind reply.
Wheels-Up!

I have downloaded ver 1.79.7475 already. The tools are confusing indeed. I am lost.
If I have a bgl file of p3dv4, (not the project) what should I do to have micro exclusions for all the objects in V5?
I need to load up p3dv4 bgl file and then save it as V5, right? kind of confused indeed.

I did the same way I usually do.
I load up the stock airport and list all the library objects, signs etc and delete all of them.
Then I compile the airport, let it save xml for editing.
I use only ***_OBJ.xml and compile to get bgl. Then put in the scenery folder. Every objects are excluded. It works great. The AFCAD is the same one.

Hello,

Id like to ask about function File -> Airport Properties" and "Test Radius". Im not sure but looks like it doesnt work for me. I have Airport Design Editor 179 and Id like to increase it for delete of some airport objects that are not included in this red circle (are outside of it, from P3Dv4 to v5). My Test Radius is set as default 5000 meters, if I change to 10000 (File > Airport Properties >Test Radius=10000, next OK) I dont see difference and still no this objects outside the red circle. Any idea? Thank You!

The test radius is not the same as the red circle which is the airport bounding radius. This was changed recently and is related to runway length among other things. I don't think you can directly but here is a trick that might work. USE a backup copy of your project in case it goes wrong.

Temporarily increase the length of the runway to include the buildings that you want to remove. Go into Approach Mode and back to Airport mode and the circle will increase. Now use Tools > Load Stock Data and the buildings should appear so you can delete them. Save the project and then reload it and return the runway to the correct length and repeat the trip through the Approach Model.

There was a plan to allow users to override the automatic calculation of the bounding radius but it's not done so far

Jon, I have run into a wall with one of my projects (KDFW). This project was brought from P3Dv4 to v5 and then to v5.1. I followed your instructions when moving from v4 and all was goodness..UNTIL I recently moved to P3Dv5.2. As such I have lost ALL the taxi signs when compiled and run on v5.2. ADE certainly lists them, all are non stock. I also can ADD new taxi signs with ADE, but after the compile, these new signs also do not display in P3Dv5.2.
In addition, this project appears to be the only project with this issue. Others (not as large or complex) of mine, KAUS, KSAT, PHNL fully display the taxi signage under 5.2.
What is the world have I missed / done wrong?
NOTE: Using your BGL2XML on the compiled scenery bgl file, there are NO "TaxiwaySign" entries. They apparently were not compiled yet there were no errors listed.
Any pointers / suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I will need to install 5.2 before I can look. Also please post the project file (.ad4) so it can be checked

SUPER...I would love to attach the .ad4 that when compiled with either the 5.2 compiler, all TaxiwaySigns are missing for both the original set of signs and I added new ones due to the recent mods to 17C-35C which also are not generated. BUT ITS TO LARGE and this website rejects the upload.
I can put it on my Google Drive and give you access (need and email address) or do you have other suggestions to get the .ad4 to you?

Here is a screen snip of the area around 17C that was added. And once you get the .ad4, you will find that the 2 examples (circled in red) have taxiway signs that are not from the .ad4 as well as new signs in the "green" and at the HS that were added to the project but do not appear in the compiled .bgl
