• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hey guys, I want to convert my own scenery from p3d to fsx, I made full terminal with interior and high detail, but when converting error appears ( see image )

Hi,

As the error says, your part has too many vertices. So you'll have to reduce the complexity.

How many triangles/vertices does the object have?

i dont know how many vertices, but i think my object have many vertices, you can see the image

You should be able to see that information in MCX as well after you loaded the object. The object information form will show it.

Hello everyone,
Is there a way to bypass this limit or this error message? I have fsx models with well over 250,000 polygons, when I open them and want to save them again without editing, I also get this error. But since the model runs with so many polygons in fsx, there must be a way 🙏

Best regards,
Tobi

MCX tries to modify models that have too many triangles with the same material on export. Slight variations of the material are made so that the mdl can compile.

I'm not sure why that trick does not work on your model. Maybe you can share an example with me so that I can have a look.

Thanks for the files to test with @tikey867, I can reproduce the error with them. The weird thing is that the vertex count of all of the parts is below the 65k limit that is mentioned in the error. So it seems XtoMDL does some optimizations to the geometry which adds more vertices or so. Hopefully I can figure out how that works, so that this can be taken into account.

Hi,

I can't really understand what XtoMDL is doing. I found threads from 12 years ago where we were discussing the same issue, without reaching a conclusion.

But I have added a workaround to MCX now. Like I wrote above MCX does already check if a model part has more than 65535 vertices, if that is the case the part is split into smaller parts. I have made the limit of the number of vertices an option now (in the exporter settings, MDLWriter section). By lowering that number you can prevent the XtoMDL error. It really depends on the model what the optimum value is, so it might take a little trial and error.

It will be part of the next development release.

Hey Arno !
Thanks for your answer and the time you spent !!!
Can´t wait for the release and testing ! :D

I will second the excitement above as well. I too have been frustrated trying convert models and come up against the dreaded "65535 vertices" error.

Looking forward to testing in next update.

Thank you for taking this on.
