• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Please combine all airport defining data under one dialog, instead of (1) "Change Airport ReferenceData" (D must be preceded by a space) and (2) "Airport Properties" (drop menu) that has a dialog called "Properies".

Could background images be added to the View menu? I have two to four dozen small background images stitched together to form the background for the entire airport at a couple of bigger city airports that I'm working on. Going into list and turning them on and off one at a time is a pain in the (your word here). I would like it if I could turn them all on or off with one click in the View menu.
Thanks.

Ed

Hi,

Good idea Ed. For now when I have small images like that, I stitch them together in a paint program and load a single image.

The ability to use georeferenced format images for the background would be great. GeoTIFF (with or without *.tfw) and JPEG with *.jgw would be ideal. Working with WGS84 or UTM projections would cover most eventualities.

Many thanks

Andy

Heck, I'd be happy with the ability to free-hand draw various things in ADE that currently feel restrictive. Such as an apron or other type of custom polygon. As it is, unless I'm missing some feature of v1.78 that I've overlooked, I have to add vertexes and drag / manipulate their positions to create shapes like a circle, hexagon or diamond or a smoother more simplified arch or curvature, such as in the designing of custom taxi paths. But nonetheless, it's an outstanding program that has been fairly user friendly to work with.

Jon, thank you for all your hard work and dedication.

To create a circle shaped apron (etc.):

1. Right click airport - Add Helper Shape
2. Choose Circle, set diameter, Add. Drag to desired location.
3. If you need to adjust the size, select the circle, right click, Edit Object, change size, Save.
4. When it is where you want it, select it, right click, choose Make Apron/Make Custom Ground Line/Make Custom Ground Poly.
5. Delete the original helper shape if desired.

Tom,
I feel that one the important points FamilyWeb is trying to make is the fact that after an apron has been created there is no simple way change the dimensions. I did an ellipse, from this an apron with 36 nodes. How can I change the long axis? I cannot. What I imagine, as a programmer, is keeping the helper attached to the apron (for example) to be able to reshape the apron easily. At any rate, the helpers are not compiled, so why detach them from derived objects automatically? I hope I explained myself well enough.

I think that the ability to draw a taxi link with a circle at three points, as implemented in Sketch Up, would not be a bad idea!

This is not a vital need, but would it be possible to add a column for elevation to some of the tabular lists such as taxiway points to accommodate for the sloped features in P3d5?

EDIT I think I have done this - Jon

Florin, as a workaround keep the helper shape and when you need to change the apron, delete the old apron, change the shape of the helper shape, and create the new apron. In this case is would be nice if Helper Shapes were added to the View menu so you could remove them from the display until needed again.

I like to have the option that on importing libraries the category would automatically be set to the original library file name.

That would make things so much more structured.

Thanks Tom, for the steps on using the helper shape. I had yet to play with that feature due to my lack of understanding ADE's full capabilities. I will play some more with it this weekend when I get a moment to breathe. I became timid with messing around too much with ADE, thanks to IS3 completely wiping out over 40 hours of meticulous work on bringing 1S0 up-to-date with the new runway assignment 16/34 to 17/35 and additional buildings and parking as well as it's new ICAO of KPLU. It is a lot for a newbie to take in on a first attempt with an unfamiliar application. Maybe I need to slow down and study the tools I'm trying to use, before using them in a hurried state of mind. Instead of trying to speed things up and use short cuts with other applications like IS3 for in-game object placement. who knew that one misplaced click would flood my scenery with unwanted hangars and no way to remove them and in turn corrupt the original stock airport. Alas, that is a discussion for a different thread.

Thank you again Tom, for the much needed help and instruction with this. It will help me immensely.

FamilyWeb,

Where did you get from detail for KLPU ICAO? I do not find anywhere. Airnav, Google, etc. Not able to find that new ICAO. Is this correct K L P U? Please tell me what name of the airport, city, and state?

Thanks,

Stuart

Stuart, Look it up on Airnav as 1S0 (one s zero). It's located in Washington state. The new ICAO is KPLU. This works also on Airnav.

Ed

No its KPLU, Pierce County-Thun Field, located in Puyallup, WA.
I didn't notice the type-o before posting, sorry.
I went ahead and corrected it.
Thanks for noticing my error.

I think it would be nice to add the ability to fully manipulate objects with the stock tag, at least in the version for developers :stirthepo
