• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

True Aviation Memories - Short Stories

I've started writing out my memories while I was learning to fly as I was talkin with another pilot friend the other day and we regaled each other with our aviation stories... I decided to write down the most memorable parts of learning to fly in the Royal Australian Air Force Cadets, otherwise...

    MSFS24 Nerdy Train Stuff

So I’m headed up to Orlando from Miami and now that I have simconnect working and can inject models into the sim. I figured I could save the telemetry of the Brightline Journey on the train. So this is stage 1, gathering the data. Next phase will be converting the data and then injecting it...

    MSFS24 Object View Distance Limits

I'm working on a project I've been dreaming about for 20 years and while I can technically place the object, I'm wondering if the render engine has limits in MSFS. I need to place the object at around 500km away, I'd need to size it so at that distance it does have enough size to be at least a...

MSFS24 I finally made a SimConnect module! Grok Rocks!

I know it's a little goofy, but I am super stoked. After 47 years of using FS since version 1, I've finally been able to create my first program plugin for the sim. I actually just tried to start with building a Taskbar Plugin that would open up a window in sim that would display "Hello...

    MSFS20 MSFS Nameplates Not Showing

I have a mystery I can’t figure out. My traffic nameplates have disappeared even though they are enabled in the Traffic settings in the MSFS menu. Would anyone have any ideas how to get them back? I can’t find anywhere else that might cause them not to display.

    MSFS20 Decoding MSFS CGL Formats

Work in Progress... So I'm doing a dive into MSFS internals and finally taking a look at a few things and discovered some things that don't seem to have been discussed as yet (some have but I'm building a master list). There are several types of sub-formats: bldn133 - Autogen Building Data...

MSFS20 Modern FS History... What's happened since FSX...

So I had been involved in several simulator development teams since FS11 was shut down, and was on the FS11 design advisory board (as a few others here were). First there was a group with Flight1 and Aerosoft that were in discussions on building a new sim. Aerosoft went their own way from...

MSFS20 Decoding FSX AI Traffic Code Internals - (still hooked in for MSFS)

So I worked with a major flight simulator developer who was porting FSX code to 64 bit for a simulator that preceded MSFS (and where a lot of updated FSX code was sent over to Asobo). With AI Traffic in the FSX code there is support for pathing data for more complicated waypoints rather than...

MSFS20 ProjectAI Toolkit & PAI General News

So I started work today on both a PC and Mac program to process data that I will be using to build a new ProjectAI back end for aircraft scheduling for AI systems. I need to work on game design documents behind the scenes to map out functionality, but the back end will be able to feed an entire...

    MSFS20 ai.cfg and landingFlare

Has anyone had a look at adjusting the landingFlare values in the ai.cfg files? I believe the default is -1 if the flag isn't set. The SDK has very minimal info: https://docs.flightsimulator.com/html/Content_Configuration/SimObjects/Aircraft_SimO/AI_Config_Definition.htm#landing It seems...

MSFS20 Project YBAF - Archerfield Airport, Brisbane Australia

After 35 years of dreaming for YBAF in MSFS, waiting for FS to finally have YBAF (I think it finally arrived in FS2002/2004 but it was bad), and FSX was a bit better and MSFS, plausible but just not accurate enough. If anyone knows or has flown out of YBAF or learned to fly knows there are a...

MSFS20 MSFS default windsock not lighted?

So I just turned on the lighted flag for the default asobo MSFS windsock: <Windsock poleHeight="4.572000" sockLength="2.743200" lighted="TRUE" containerTitle="Windsock"/> Checked in sim and there's no lighting, I'm assuming the default windsock has not been modeled with emissive...

    MSFS20 MSFS Airline Parking Codes

Back in the day FS2004, FSX, P3D at Project AI and other AI groups we all used the ICAO codes for airline parking. Back then the limit for the "airlineCodes=" entry was limited to 4 characters per airline code... Our work around for stuff like QANTAS and other airline regional feeders was to...

    MSFS20 Parking space distances apart?

This isn't necessarily an ADE specific question, it also applies to SDK compiled parking. I was reworking YBAF to add all the missing parking spaces and in testing it with ground aircraft set to 100% in the traffic settings it didn't populate every parking space, it seems to most times populate...

    MSFS20 Considering Resurrecting ProjectAI

So back in the early 2000's I was one of the team at ProjectAI and worked closely with Matt and Frank as well as others on the team who were part of the FS2004 and FSX beta teams. That work of course led to Tom's awesome work at Flight1 for Ultimate Traffic and then Ultimate Traffic X. There...

MSFS20 FSX style BGL Touch n Go Schedules for MSFS

It has been well over 15 years since I was involved with ProjectAI and the beta for Ultimate Traffic and Ultimate Traffic X and with the demise of ProjectAI. I've been searching for days on how to compile and format AI flightplan's from the FSX SDK. I've looked at AIFP and it's way more...

MSFS20 Animated Textures for 3D Scenery

I have an idea for something I've been wanting to do for years. There's a local drive-in movie theatre and in the past we could do animated textures for scenery objects although limited in the number of frames. It's been a while since looking at the MSFS SDK's and don't recall seeing if the...

MSFS20 MSFS Vector Painted Aircraft??? Is this a secret Asobo hasn't shared?

I'm wondering if Asobo has kept something a secret about their in house aircraft. For the C152 Aerobat I was taking a look at it in close up, pixel peeping, at the fuselage lines and noticed, there's no pixels! There seems to be some sort of vector texturing going on, no matter how close you...

MSFS20 Piper Tomahawk Dreaming... (35 years VH-TLA and many more)

So long time ago in a land far far away, 35 years ago as I was learning to fly at the RAAF Queensland Air Training Corps (QAirTC/AirTC now AAFC) in Australia, I spent a lot of time in VH-TLA... As I was 16 there was one point I was almost grounded until I learned my checklist by heart, and I...
