• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Suggestions for Future Version 2012

Would it be at all possible to add a short descriptor to a non runway start position. At present you can only add a Runway, Water or Helipad Start plus 01 through to 36 and a few compass points, North, NorthWest, etc.

It would be helpful if we could add a real 'Other Start' with a Runway Number or descriptor something like, Apron or Hanger etc.

I'm not sure if this is a limitation within FSX but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Apologies if this has been canvassed before.

As far as I know we are limited to using a runway number and type.

A couple of things I'd love to see (but imagine they are fairly complex propositions)

1. The ability to have multi-coloured runways ie as in real life some runways have varying surfaces - part asphalt, part concrete etc, especially around runway intersections where the crossing runway is a different surface type. (I think AFX allowed different textured over-run areas but not on the actual runway)

2. Much more complex...... Many runways have different touchdown zone markings to those which were standard when FSX was released eg longer runways often have aiming point markings further inset than previous worldwide standard 1000 foot point.

My ideal menu for this would display runway vertically, with boxes opposite each 500 foot section, allowing tick to select features. EG Threshold (choice of Precision, non-precision, numbers only, no markings) 500 foot point (choice of 3 bar USA standard, 2 bar same, 1 bar same, UK style, maybe even Aiming point UK brackets ot intl style aiming point) 1000 foot point (standard aiming point, UK brackets, 3 bar USA standard, 2 bar same, 1 bar same, UK style)
THEN, ideally, an intermediate user-specified location before 1500 foot point in which to display aiming point as at large airports. 1500 foot point then a choice of precision markings again, all the way down to 3000 feet from threshold. eg I could then end up with a runway landing zone with 3 bars, 3 bars, aiming point at 1500 feet, 2 bars, one bar, one bar. Short runways could display eg 3 bar, 2 bar, 1 bar. Hope this makes sense. San Diego has 3 bar, aiming point, 2 bar, 2 bar, 1 bar (but no 1 bar markings at 3000 feet point) The list goes on.......:o

Alternatively, could ALL styles of touchdown markings be included as placeable objects? similar to Lance Tucker's RWY_MARK.ZIP which I use currently but which is missing international Aiming point bars.

Interesting ideas. :) I am not sure that the moment how many could be implemented directly in ADE. ADE uses the standard properties available in the Bgl Compiler.

I think some folks use aprons to mimic different runway surfaces but someone who has done it would be better to explain than me. ADE does not display runway markings 100% accurately at the moment although we are working to improve that - at least to match exactly what FS displays for each property setting.

I think most people use FS2002 style ground polygons for customized runways, taxiways, aprons, and markings (i.e. things that the FS BGL compiler cannot do). This allows you to create custom textures laid onto the ground. ModelConverterX can convert an MDL file (created by GMAX, etc.) of such polygons to the proper format.

Hope this helps,

how about smthn like this?

buttons to add a taxi sign, model, library object, and create duplicate of last object made.
I think it might save a few extra steps rather than right clicking.

Here is a button setup I created in about 2 minutes to kind of illustrate where I am going with this.

One problem is real estate in the toolbar. While most people will use ADE in full screen mode if you window it then you start to lose items. When we were working on ADE V2 (cancelled development) there was a way to drag and drop a number of object types including the ones you suggest. I will add this to the list and see what can be done...........

It would be just like adding parking spots, etc. in AFCAD. Click the button, then click where you want the object to be added. If needed (for taxi signs, for example) the dialog box could come up immediately for you to complete the object. You could then click again somewhere else and another object would be placed.

I'm not sure how much easier this is than right clicking and choosing Add... though. :)

Hope this helps,

OK I see. Click a button and then click the location to place it.............

It would be useful if Lists->Senery objects included the objects' GUIDs.

It would be even better if the lists grid would allow copy/paste of the fields.

Maybe but in the wrongs hands that could cause utter chaos

Sorry if these have been asked or suggested:

1) Copy and paste multiple objects of different classes.
2) Create area templates with the option to select reference point and rotate the template. And saving the template data with the object group created with the template to allow the entire group to be tweaked all at once.
