• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Suggestions for Future Version 2012

The problem is that the selection distance is not adjusted for zoom. It is fixed at about 10 meters which is probably not an issue if the zoom level is one or less. I note in your screenshot that the zoom is x24. At that level the selection distance is far too large. I will make it zoom dependent in the next build. Ctrl + A is clearly better in this case at the moment since it requires the cursor to be over the apron. However there is a 'price' for that. ADE will select the first apron it finds under the cursor. I guess most of the time it will get it right but if there are two overlapping aprons then the wrong one migh get selected. There is also a risk when aprons are over background or land class polys.

This may have been suggested before, but I think it would be such a great help:
Would it be possible in FSX to actually view the airport or scenery you are working with. Example: Try to place a jetway in desired location. To "click" a switch that would allow you to move back and forth from FSX to ADE to see if jetway (or anything else) is in desired location before having to save and compile and close out. Think this would be time saving also.
Thank you

It has been suggested. It is on our list but it is a significant pieve of work to deliver so I am not sure when it might happen.

What I'd like is to be able to use the simulator ground background as well as a map image.

I just brought in a couple of static airplanes that have to be scaled to 0.29 when used.

Would it be possible the Library Object Manager to store that data rather than having to remember it every time they are used?

You can create an image from the airport background. In FS go to Top View and Slew Mode. Press the space bar to face true north. Then zoom out/in until the airport is in view. If FS9, press Alt-Print Screen and an image will be transferred to the Clipboard. Paste into any paint program (even MS Paint will probably work). Save as a BMP file. Then add to ADE.

In FSX it's even easier (there is a command to create a BMP image from the screen), but I don't use it and don't know the keystroke.

Hope this helps,

Not at the moment. You can fix some data for objects like the footprint size and which side is the 'front'. I have added it to the list since it should be possible to save that information against an object. I am working on a revision for the LOM that will be in the next major upgrade (the one after the current beta goes into production) so that would be the time it can be worked on.

How about a button for placing a library object?

The "Right Click" method works but my hand is getting tied!

I've always wanted a shortcut for object placement... a button would be a pain in the butt. Best to just have a keystroke I can hit while holding the mouse cursor over the location I want the object to go

The problem with this is discussed in the other thread - that is the issue of placement. A click on a button leaves the mouse off the design area. You need to be able to accurately place the object. Right clicking allows us to know where you want to place it. Having said that drag and drop techniques might work and that is what I had in the never released V2.

Now that would be much more practical :)

My thought was a button to put you into Object Placement mode like when you plane parking spots.

Then when you click on a specific point you get the catalog to select the object then place it.

Remember if you want to place the same object more than once you can use the copy/paste function.

OK - that makes sense

OK - that makes sense

you said thats what you had in v2 but never released it, now it makes sense as in you think its an idea or it just makes sense?

I like the keyboard shortcut and a button ideas with catalog. something to make the process a little faster :) although it takes under 5 seconds... lol
