• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Can't this already be done in a round about way by copying from one airfield and pasting into another?

It can but only one object at a time. I think the idea here is to be able to create a scene of several objects and package that up so it can be used again somewhere else :)

Ahh ok....I knew I had copied and pasted but wasn't sure if it was a single object or if I had selected multiple items. It was a while ago now.

Multiple selection through the list box

Jon,
I am aware that 'rubber banding' for multiple selections is on your to-do list. Here is suggestion which may well do the same.
I was working on an airport over several sessions during which I changed the default taxiway parameters and ended up with several sections dotted around with differing markings. My answer was to multiple select using the mouse, but this became tricky to say the least.
I then opened the list box and sorted to select those I was interested but again only single selection edits possible.

Could multiple selections (for editing) be introduced here? Also can full parameters be provided, would make it easier to find erroneous elements?

Thanks to you and the development team for an invaluable utility.:)

If I can get decent information on the Airbus UK facility at Hawarden (EGNR) I may have something myself for the community

Good ideas Charlie - we have talked in the past about multiple selection and edit from the lists view but not really progressed it. I will find that in the project database and give it a bump :)

Hi Jon...

I like your tool very much and use it constantly but how great it would be if you had a function that you could "see" the runway in FSX before compiling the BGL. It would make "placing" the field in the exact bearing much easier....How about this?;)

Another idea: a 'select all' feature.
For example: if you want to make all taxiways wider or smaller, or you want to add or remove all TWY centerlines, you have to select all taxiway links one by one. Maybe you can make something that all taxiway links can be selected in once. That'll sure save a lot of time!
Have a nice day!

Joost de Wit

I have added that to the list :)

Library objects

Currently, it's possible to select multiple parking spots, and edit them so that some of their characteristics are made the same (heading, size, etc).

This facility isn't available for objects, but there are some at least which would benefit from this feature. I'm thinking right now of light poles, but it would be a similar benefit for anything that is regular around an airport, and, I suppose, that includes objects of all kinds.

Light poles, definitely, because after they are placed, it would be much easier to edit them as a group for, say, scale, to get the height right without individually editing half a century of individual light poles.

It would be nice to be able to select them as a group from the list of objects, as well.

If this is not easy / possible, it would help if lists were made a little more dynamic, and display the current status of the object - not the status before it was edited.

Later:

Oops, I've just seen the request above, so I suppose that this one is just about redundant!

Not too redundant John!

Lock down

I've just realised that being able to lock down runways and aprons is a most useful feature - so useful, in fact, that I'd like to see this extended to all classes of objects, and for ease, a "Lock All" button, that locks down anything that can be unlocked with a lock class toggle, and which can toggle unlock all, of course.

Reason? If I were a golfer, I'd have the yips, and I find that with small objects (like lightpoles) it's just too easy to move the wrong thing without even realising you've done so, until you see the edge lighting out of place, etc.

This is also pretty devastating when I forget that the middle button moves the whole lot around - not the normal index finger button, and I'm toggling back and forth between Google Maps and ADE! Ugly!

This would be very useful to maintain all base scenery in exactly the right location when loading a new airport to edit.

You can lock individual items from the right click menu now or from the properties dialog. I realize that is not very convenient for large numbers of objects though

Yes, I was aware of that, Jon, but it was the global lock idea that appealed to me, because then you could unlock and work on only the aspects of the layout that you wanted to change in some way.

I have it one the list John - but it will take some thinking about to get it right.

Thank you, Jon.

And once you've achieved that, some sort of "bulk update" allowing the selection and mass update of like items would be good - er - I think I mentioned that!

Holding position & changing objects

As there is no "bulk update" from lists, the user must thread one by one down the list. The changes can't be seen without refreshing the list, and to add insult to injury :) the blue positioning highlight disappears when you come back to the list. Imagine 50 light poles, in a row, in the list. Now, was it the fifth or the sixth one I last updated?

Oh, and while on the subject, is there any possibility of being able to actually change the object itself while editing? I've got the position right, the direction is correct, I've got the scale right, but I've just found a better fit. Oh, well, delete this one and start again! I think that being able to change individual scenery objects either individually or in bulk would be an excellent additional feature.

These things come in waves, don't they? I was working with trees the other day, and thought how good it would be if I could set up a small copse of trees, then select them as a group to move or copy them elsewhere.

I'm going to limit myself to three harebrained schemes for today - otherwise I might just wear out my welcome.

BTW, these are all small incremental changes - not earth shattering, and the tool is excellent as it is - like most fanatics, I just want more!

My development environment has just hung for the third time in a row. If I can ever get it working long enough I will look at these John :)

Oh, darn!

First it's the web site, then its the development environment! Better make sure that your HDD backup is current!

Not sure if this one has been requested yet.

Library Object Manager.

Bigger window, some BGLs filenames are wider than the dropdown and its hard to see what file is what when you have all the BGLs start with the same name.

Also, the ability for it to find BGLs within a given directory rather than add them 1 by 1.

Yes the window and be made bigger and yes we will be extending the scope of the manager in a later version
